Women now have a version of Viagra
May. 22, 2007 11:27 PM

Sometimes love lives need more than hand holding and Barry White music. Now women have a new option to help them in the bedroom.

Melissa Sherrill is getting a G-shot to increase her sexual pleasure.

"It's a form of human collagen we inject into the front wall of the vaginal tissues where the G-spot is," says Justin Salerno, M.D., Obstetrician Gynecologist.

After numbing her pleasure zone with local anesthesia, Dr. Salerno injects the collagen.

"It didn't hurt at all," says Sherrill.

The collagen is FDA approved to plump up lips, but this is an off label use.

"I've only offered this eight weeks but I've basically been unable to keep up with demand," says Dr. Salerno.

He says the shot is designed for women who already have a healthy sex life and want an even better one. This mother of three, who doesn't want her face shown, credits the g-shot with helping her reach orgasm faster.

"Way more quickly and multiple not just one or two but four or five which made it a lot better," she says with a laugh.

Licensed psychologist and sex therapist Dr. Brynah Barsky-Ex does not recommend the g-shot.

"I think getting addicted to the $1800 every four months just to be able to function sexually is problematic there are a lot of ways to get pleasure. And I really don't think you need a shot to be able to do it,” says the sex therapist.

And she's concerned about the lack of studies on possible long term side effects of the injection. But Dr. Salerno says it's safe and his patients are happy.

"Once you've had it this good, you don't want to go back," says an unidentified G-Shot client.

Melissa Sherrill looks forward to enjoying the same benefits.

"Better sex, better sex life with my partner the main thing is it gives me a boost of self esteem," says Sherrill.

Not all women experience a benefit, and the G-shot does come with some risks, including bleeding, infections and allergic reactions.
