Well, I guess we'll see now if Philip Rivers is really all that.  I have to say I will miss Drew, though.  His past two years were the best quarterback performance here since Fouts glory days (yeah, they made the Super Bowl in 94, but it wasn't because Humphries was such an exciting passer...he was a good leader).  It was nice to actually see some decent air performances by OUR side in The Murph for a change.

It won't matter who's playing quarterback for the Chargers, as long as Marty Schottenheimer is coaching the Chargers, the Chargers will never win anything, so if you're gonna replace your injured starting quarterback, now's the right time!

I hate to say it but my guess is this move will prove to be a mistake.  Hope I'm wrong.  I just can't see letting a young proven player (even with a health question like Brees) go to let a guy who has no pro experience take over.  Rivers was good (but not necessarily great) in college...so was Ryan Leaf!

Perhaps the most over-rated passer in the NFL. With Gates, McCardell, LT et al, anyone with could look like a star. Good riddance! And what's more...at $10M/yr who wouldn't get that ugly thing cut off your right cheek!

The funny thing is, Brees does charity work for a group that repairs people's physical deformities and a lot of the stuff they do for folks is just like what he needs...get that thing off your face Drew!

Hey Mr. SD, sorry to be joining late but here goes. I gotta agree with you, big mistake. Brees is a smart guy and a winner. He won at Austin Westlake (I know a guy who lives in Austin and QB'd at UT in the 70's and he says Brees was the best HS QB he'd ever seen. Brees won at Purdue - not a football powerhouse - and started as a freshman. He's been successful in the NFL, no question. River's is unproven who does S. Carolina play? However, he may prove to be better than Brees - but it's gonna take 2-3 years to find out if he's our savior or a bust. At least Brees is proven. Will Gates, LT, etc. stick around long enuff for this to happen? In the NFL the QB is the guy who wins games and championships and the winners are the smart ones, like Brees. The probs are 1) The Spanos' are cheap and stupid, 2) Marty ball, while better than nothing is not a championship formula. Its really gonna be bad with Brees gone. Hope Rivers remembers to line up behind the center and doesn't grab one of the guards' nads! Yes I'm a Brees fan. Figure I better beat you guys to the punch to say that I'm not blowing Brees, nor is he blowing me. But he is a good kisser
