I find MV more convenient in terms of traffic and parking. Also, depending on the hotel, MV has some where you do not need to access via the lobby, whereas not so the case DT IMO.

Whatever location is closer to the Lindberger field is fine with me.  I dont always stay more than 1 night so I am in-and--out.  I think preference-wise it would be Pt. Lomar as that it right near the airport.  I'm a busy guy  Gotta go!  Joe

Parking, traffic, and construction downtown can be challenging, some elevators require room keys...

I know you asked the hobbyists, but I have similar experiences going on my out calls.   Sometimes the one way streets, traffic and construction can make it a little more difficult or time consuming to get around.  If you miss your turn it could take 15 minutes to get back to where you wanted to be if there's construction and detours!  Maybe that's just me, lol.  

I think the downtown hotels are generally nicer and since they are bigger with indoor hallways, the rooms are more private.

I'd rather go downtown for an out call in spite of the challenges

I agree with the parking and driving challenges downtown, but the rooms are much better and private (depending on the upscale hotel you choose).
