Why is it that some "non registered" user can post a message asking for a privite message response that can not be done. Do some people post messages on here just to F%$#@ with other people? Hmmmm or are some people just too cheap to get a VIP membership...
Of the 3 sentences in your post, one of them (#2) makes sense.
Nobody but a member can post. But any member, basic or VIP can post. Either way, there will be the little mailbox symbol, provided they post under their username. And either way a PM will arrive in their Inbox. The difference is that only a VIP can enter his own Inbox and see his messages.
No mailbox means somebody's posting under an alias. In fact, that's how you can tell it's an alias. Again, you have no clue from the message whether that member is basic or VIP.
So drop the knee jerk "all TER problems are due to free membership" nonsense and realize that the answer has to be #2.
