My friend just called me and told me she left her car on the fast lane side of the freeway because it stalled out and she doesen't have a license so she freaked out and just took a ride away from the car and the scene? How can she retrieve the car and since she just bought it it isn't even in her name yet, i think so anyway? Is she in trouble and is she better off just simply leaving the car (saying goodbye to it?) or can she do this with out any trouble. What are the laws on this subject? how do I find out what they are? Any information on this would be greatly appreicated!
Well I would guess she's in some if not a lot of trouble. First, driving without a license which probably means no insurance. Also brings up the question as to why she didn't have a license,,suspended? Plus if the car is not in her name, how can she prove it's hers? Beyond that, towing and storage fees could be costly.
At this point there's no proof an unlicensed driver was driving. Just a car broke down on the side of the road. But yeah, towing/storage is legalized extortion and I'd be surprized if you could get it any time this week for less than $400. Kittiespretty, I sent you a PM. zoo2u
Vehicle will be towed and the registered owner as shown on DMV's records will be notified. If that prior owner has his money, he may not care to do anything. Vehicle will be sold at some point.
As an aside, your friend is additionally stupid in driving in the fast lane with a vehicle about which she does not know the mechanical history.
I was going by where she said her friend didn't have a license. It's been years since I was towed, it was towed because I didn't have parking sticker for where I lived, but I thought I had to show my license to get my car back.
Here's what you do. Get a girlfriend with a lisence. Then have your friend contact the police - says her friend was driving her car and it stalled on the freeway and she was afraid it was too dangerous to stay with it so she left to find assistance and call the owner.
By the time the lisenced friend got in touch with the unlisenced owner and they got back to the scene the car was gone - and they've been trying ever since to find it.
Duh.
Leave it to a hooker to figure out a way around the issue. Or complicate it so badly someone goes to jail... [giggle]
