Double Booking?

Okay, this is a first for me and I don't know if this is a regular thing or not.  I had made arrangements to meet with a particular person that was visiting from out of town.  We had gone back and forth several times with emails.  She set the date and time which I agreed.  The night before she sent me an email saying, "I will see you at 1:00, if I don't hear from you I will assume you are coming."  Well, I responded saying that I would see her then.  The day came and I ended up driving an extra two hours out of my way since I don't live near where she was visiting.  I get to the hotel lobby and call her room.  She says to come on up.  As I get in the elevator another guy gets in the elevator with me and we are both going to the same floor.  I was beginning to get that feeling that something was wrong.  I made sure that when I got off of the elevator that I would go the opposite way.  When I turned around I saw this guy knock on the door that I was supposed to be going to.  My first thought was that this guy was a cop or something that I didn't want to have to deal with.  I left and got back in my car after pumping a couple bucks in the parking meter....now for the wonderful drive that was for NOTHING!  I get back home and send her an email, and she says, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear from you so I told another guy to come over."  She didn't realize that it was me calling from the lobby.  When I sent back the email she sent to me saying, "If I don't hear from you I will assume you are coming."  I'm not asking for too much, but the communication on this one was horrible and I got nothing more than an email asking how she could make it up to me.

I know nothing can be done, but I hope that this is not the normal procedure for people to do this type of thing.

Was this for a date with Christina, recently visiting?  I had a similar experience.  I tentatively set up 3-6 PM on Monday, at which time I was told she'd get back to me to confirm.  Well, her posting indicated she didn't get enough appointments, so would cut her visit short to one day.  Next thing I know, I get a voice mail on my cell phone saying "call by 1PM to confirm".  I called at 12:15, and emailed, didn't hear from her, decided to call back (about 1:15), by which time she had already set up someone else for the same time.  Said she fired her "booking agent", due to all the confusion.  Oh well, better luck next time, right?

Nothing ever surprises me in this hobby.

I think a lot of the providers mean well, but also think some are just plain clueless at times when it comes to managing their lives or making things easier for them (and us).

Why is it that we always hear about these problems that effect them when they need help, but they don't take the time to plan so a guy doesn't go home upset and feeling rejected.

A simple tool, (yes it even vibrates) would save them so much stress and wasted effort. I'm referring to the RIM Blackberry. For a traveling provider, they can point their toll free number to their cell phone and get their e-mail on it.

The beauty of this little thing is that it does turn off so when they are on a date it can be taking messages. When the date is over, and the guest of the moment has left, they can check all their messages, and not have the excuse of no internet access, etc.

For the price of a few hundred dollars, the missed appointments would be more than eliminated, and the device and service more than paying for itself. Of course, some providers may need a necklace for it, other wise they might lose it.
