Here's just a simple thought and tip for providers who visit but refuse to answer "blocked" calls. In order to reach you via your long distance number, there are some of us out here (with significant others at home) who cannot use direct long distance from our phones because it'll show up on a phone bill. That means the hard questions and bad scenes start flying in short order. Not good.
So some of us must resort to purchasing Call Cards to get in touch. Of course, that means it lessens the chance you'll ever pick up, even though there's a ready hobbyist on the other end. For me at least, on those occassions when providers decided to pick up anyway and talk for a few moments, they found that things worked out well after all. So here's a suggestion to give it a try and pick up sometimes, please. Believe it or not, there are circumstances where the hobbyist also has to be discreet. Not all "blocked" calls are bad.
I went to Target, paid $50 cash for a phone from T-Mobile. I buy a $10 refill every month for 30 minutes. After spending $100, the minutes don't expire for a year.
If you have had this happen to you often enough that it bothers you, it may be time to see if you can work with some other options?
Prepaid cell phones are pretty easy to come by these days. If you stash it away and only use if for seeking providers, it should be an unblocked number.
Another option to consider would be some type of secondary long distance connection such as Vonage. If you can set this up without the knowledge of your wife, you can make long distance calls that won't show up on your normal phone bill.
It's funny someone should mention it, but I also find the blocked call policy not only moot, but very annoying. My advice: avoid the girls that ask you to unblock your number. Just think, if the girl is already imposing unnecessary restrictions before meeting, can you just imagine what things will be like after meeting?
Hi San Diego! Sure do miss it there! But, I check in here occassionally and thought I would add a little to this thread. I am one who does answer blocked calls. I have made some great friends by doing so. It does pose a problem however and I do understand why some ladies don't bother with it. More often than not, blocked calls are a hassle and more often than not, you end up with someone on the other end who plays the 21 questions game. LE uses blocked calls all the time and those guys REALLY ask alot of questions, gotta build that case ya know. Can be a pain in the butt, however in my experience not to the point that I won't give a person a chance to speak. I do ask for a number that I can call back and good dates have been made on many occassions. I would have to say that the ratio leans towards the ladies because REALLY, most of the time you do end up with lost minutes and someone on the other end who is someone who should really just call a dentist, because it is like pulling teeth trying to get the info we need to be safe and many reputable providers have enough business not to go through the trouble. I still think that there are plenty of great guys out there who just happen to have their phone set up that way and do deserve a chance to introduce themselves. That's just me, I do respect the decisions and wishes of the ladies that choose this perogative. I just don't want to miss the chance to meet yet another sexy guy. I'm such of a slut that way, lol. Can't wait to get back to SD for a visit. I'll be coming in towards the end of February with a girlfriend...www.terrikares.com
I met her at a Toys for Tots benefit that the Phoenix girls and guys put together every year. I met alot of great people there. Even with the extreme war that Phoenix LE have against the hobby, those folks have no fear when it comes to mixers and socials. It was awesome, and I was blown away by Terri when I met her. She is really very beatiful and the most personable woman I have met since coming back to Arizona. So, be prepared SD, cuz I am bring her with me and we can't wait to tag team you guys! Kisses and hugz.........Jenni
