say you went to see a provider for the first time  and... did not want to stay for "any" reasons, chemistry, looks, misconception, whatever! should you be obligated to stay or pay a cancellation fee? after all you drove from whereever, took time off in good faith, came... but now don't like what you see. do you owe a "fee" to leave?

I think that this would have to be looked at on a case by case basis. I think it depends if the girl ad was deceptive or if she just didn't meet your tastes. I have seen some reviews where the hobbyist claims that the girls pic was very old or deceptive in some other way. In that case, I would not pay a cancellation fee. However, if the girl looks like her pictures, and you have decided to to go through with it for some other reason, then a cancellation fee may be in order.
This is why it's so important to read prior reviews.

Great answer. I've had girls who give the impression of one form of service on the phone only to inform you the there is no touching when they get there. She wanted her $50 cancel fee and I told her that it paid for the room. However, if a woman sets time aside and travels to meet you and you change your mind then I feel she is owed someting for her time. My $.02

If it was an incall, I would pay for the room + about half the rate as she too lost a chance to book someone else, if it was an outcall, I would pay her fee, this happened to me once, the provider and I just did not "click", I told her, not her fault, she came out, I gave her the "donation" and we parted friends. If I cancel a Dr's appointment they charge me a fee, isn't it similar? I would much rather see a provider than a Dr any day.

I too think it depends on the reason for the cancel. If she gained 50lbs, changed the color of her hair and aged 10 years since the picture you saw on the web no $$$.

I think you are all correct it depends on each individual situation. It is hard to judge all cases together because sometimes it can be the provider fault, client fault or no ones fault you just do not click. On the provider end, well pic is not updated, gain lots of weight, location not clean....On the clients fault is if he did not do his homework, or if he is not attracted to the pic, however he feel that by the time he gets to her place she will look better(LOL), like magic.
No matter what I do think some sort of cancellation fee, what and how much is really up to the individual situation.

The previous messages address some of the issues.  It depends on why you are deciding not to go through with it.  If the provider is not the one in the picture, bait and switch, then I would say no.  If the photo does not resemble the person at all, not recent by 10 years and 25+ lbs then I still say no.  There should be some truth in advertising.  If she is late to the appointment, especially at her location, and then says she has to leave in considerably less than the agreed to time, I say no or negotiate a lower fee for the shorter time.

If you have to cancel because of an unforeseen event, family matter, change in work schedule, illness or car trouble, then I feel the person should be compensated the full fee if you cannot give adequate notice.  If the person or the location is not to your liking when you show up, but has not really lied, then I would pay the full fee and walk.

The issue of services is a little more difficult as we do not have a signed or even clear verbal contract as to what will happen.  It depends on what was stated in your preliminary contact, but a cancellation fee may have to be paid.

The problem is that there is a portion of the providers that are just working a scam.  They are happy to get some guys to pay the full amount or even a partial amount with no intention of providing any real service.  If we keep paying these providers the fee or a cancelation fee, they just keep working the scam on others.  Yes do your homework, but many guys may not know about TER yet and might get burned.

If we keep paying cancellation fees to providers

I assume you are talking about incall. Don't pay any cancellation fee. If you cannot negotiate an acceptable deal or you get the bait and switch, send her packing. If the threats start, Make steady eye contact. Stand between her and the door, just in case she tries to open the door for her driver. Grab your phone and be ready to dial 911. Don't turn your back. Don't yell or beg her to leave, just repeat firmly it's time to go. If her driver is at the door, don't let her open it until he clears out. Be ready to call the cops, the escort will not wait for them to show.
