Anyone  know how this works? and what are the potential pitfalls? I'm all for new tech..butdon't want to get burned.

Works great for communicating with providers during boring meetings at work, confirming appointments, etc.

I tried it and ended up in a pay chat room. Each message you send would cost either .99 or 1.99, depending on what type of service you had. I started receiving messages from Atlanta and other east coast areas and had trouble canceling my participation. I ended up turning my cell phone off. My advice would be to stay away from those CL adds.

It seems like I sent an intial reply once to one of those text messaging ads.  If my memory serves me correctly, the response mentioned something about a pay service?... maybe a 900#?  I don't have that phone with me, but will try to look and see if the message is still on the phone.

I didn't get any more junk text messages, thankfully.

All of the above replies have good points and several are right.  Additionally, a couple of weeks ago it was advertised that a few of the police departments (including SDPD) were using this as a sting.  So be very careful.  Personally, I won't use text messaging - especially with someone I don't know.  I haven't used it yet and I already get TM spam.
