Read the link below for an article on our hobby...

And at the end it says:

"During the investigation, an undercover officer was hired to work as an escort or prostitute."

Is this legal for them to do?

I can't imagine why not. The officer was "undercover". It's nothing new.

It is known as the rule of "the ends justify the means." Between the recent Court rulings and the Patriot Act, what the police can do legally has been expanded significantly.

Did you know they can now stop you at the border (or even the San Onofre Checkpoint)and take apart your car & gas tank without probable cause? We have a very recent Court ruling to thank for that one!

Yes, they can do it and cause a lot of trouble.  However, if you have a good attorney and there is a hint of entrapment you will beat the rap.

Head on over to the legal board with the question, I'm not an attorney.

Entrapment won't help you unless it can be proved that you wouldn't have EVER done the crime without the temptation, and heavy urging of the cops.

Hobbyists aren't going to get off because they're entrapped.  Trolling for a date shows that they're likely to be involved in solicitation for sex, which in and of itself eliminates the entrapment defense.

Again, I'm not an attorney.  I'm sure one would be much more likely to explain it better.

In order to beat a rap, don't meet the elements of the crime of solicitation for sex.  Don't discuss an exchange of money for an act of sex.  Don't pay a girl ahead of time for anything.  (Sorry ladies~It's for your safety, too.) Then, when if you ARE entrapped, that good attorney will be able to beat the rap.

I doubt the undercover went on any actual assignments.  She probably just taperecorded the hiring process and the training and got enough evidence there in order to get a search warrant.

I bet the madame told her exactly what was expected of her, etc.  That was probably plenty to go for an arrest and shut down of the business.

I could be completely wrong.

My point is, don't read between the lines,  It didn't say the officer actually turned tricks.  It said she was hired to work as one, not that she actually went through with the work
