The Pahds are 5W - 1L against the Braves this year and  Smotz (old version), hudson and Sosa aren't anywhere near a fearsome as '98' s Glavine, Maddux, Smoltz (young version) Millwood and Neagle where then.

I hope the Padres get to play Atlanta.  It is St. Loius, (P's record this year 3W-4L) and Houston (2W-4L) that I'm worried about.

But anything can happen in a short series.  If the Padres get on a streak like they did in May ..... could be fun.

While I am glad to see that they are having success this year in spite of their being lucky if they finish above .500, I don't think there is a person out there who REALLY thinks they will be anything but sacrificial lambs once the playoffs start, as this being the Pads "year" is only due to how horrible the other NL Worst teams have been.  The Pads will be playing Atlanta in the first round of the playoffs, and I don't think 1998 is going to be repeated here.  John Smoltz, Tim Hudson, and Jorge Sosa should mow the Madres down, given how poorly they have hit for most of the year.  The fun things about baseball, though, is that you never know.  If Jake and Adam pitch to their potential, it could get interesting, the way Pedro has been pitching of late.

Congrats to the NL West 2005 champs...and I hope we get to hear "Hells Bells" riinging at Petco in October.

I'll root for the Pads every game, but I would wager money on the Braves.

.....now I learn that you are a Padres fan as well as a fan of the ladies! Of course, with your TER handle, you fit right in with the Padres this season.........take me out to the ball game........

Forget the Padres.  Go see Terri.  Saw her yesterday, and in my book, she hit a grand slam!

The Padres are playing the Cardinals in the first round of the playoffs starting on Tuesday.  And the Padres this year have a winning record against the Cardinals and the Braves, so who knows??

I had assumed that the wild card team, regardless of which one, would play the team that finished with the best record.  Of course, why would I assume logic in baseball?  So, the Pads would play the Braves if the Phillies are the WC, but it will likely be the Astros (look at Pettite's and Clemens' ERA!  Daaaaannnngggg!), which leaves the Madres against likely CY Young winner Chris Carpenter, Mark Mulder, and the Cards murderers row of hitters.

If the Madres win that, I will become a Buddhist.
