Just read this article, a lot of interesting information. According to the "Madam" in the article:
1. The high-end escorting market is bottoming out. I guess it is true that a certain top name is now independent and accepting 1.5K instead of 3k+ (see a post of mine below).
2. There were supposedly a number of arrests of independents working at the Exxxotica convention in Chicago earlier this month. I was surprised to see Eros.com as a sponsor of the event, no doubt LE noticed that as well.
3. Strip clubs aren't paying for feature dancers anymore. I noticed this myself. Thefloatingworld.com lists porn stars featuring at clubs around the US, and there are only two right now as of this writing. I remember seeing 20+ girls on that list not too long ago. Hell, there hasn't been a real feature dancer in my area in over a year.
4. Mentions girls accepting very low prices for sugar daddy arrangements. Pretty sure she's referencing the Alexis Fawxxx tribute site (google it)
5. Alleging that major agencies won't hire girls who won't offer BBFS. This I find very alarming, if it's true.
As much as I'm glad to see prices coming down letting Average Joe's like myself dabble more in the high-end of the hobby, It's depressing to see things coming to what they are. I've known for years that the porn industry has been on the fritz, I really didn't realize how bad things were on the escorting end.
BBFS went on in 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010, and it goes on today..This is nothing new (In other news, it rains on Mt. Waialeale (island of Kauai)...Consenting adults can make the decisions for themselves what they do...So i do not find that "alarming"....What i find alarming are politicans who are risking the US, and quite possibly the world economy because of a refusal to raise the debt ceiling...Now that's alarming..
This was a well written article that really describes the challenges of the industry right now and its future course. The industry has evolved over the last 20 or so years but the last few years has changed drastically. Its hard to say how it will evolve.
1)What is a pornstar? The article mentioned this swinging door flow of talent in the industry. Will porn stars become porn personality, something like a movie star vs a reality tv show personality?
2) Porn and Strip Club stopped working with each other, which is why they are both hurting. There was a time when there was a steady market for porn star features. Ladies getting a $1500 appearance fee and whatever she made from lap dances and pics. Those were really good times but for some reason just stopped. Why? no more name recognition. The industry is not marketing big names anymore thus no one has a fan following anymore. So, both industries are hurting.
3) Porn has been the pioneer in creating and adapting new technology to market their products but technology has turned on them. All these free porn sites are killing the studios profits. No one is buying DVDs when they can see the clips online for free. With no money coming in, they can't pay talent what they used to, thus why we dont have any big name stars anymore. Its cheaper to get a college chick from the valley, pay her 500 for an anal scene and show her the door than to market and promote a lady with websites, appearances, and all the bells and whistles.
4) Porn Star Experiences, overpriced or over saturated? There are many ladies on this board that have developed a name for themselves and they should profit from it. But, when the market is flooded with these porn personalities offering bargain deals, its very hard to shell out the big bucks. The article failed to mentioned anything about the quality of the session, which is more important to me. Even with the economy being the way it is, there is still action in the porn star market, but it is more on us hobbyists to read the reviews and do our research.
5) Ladies should be allowed to the play the way they feel most comfortable with and that is it.
I really hope the industry can pull itself out and get back on top again.
The industry is not on the fritz and its not going away. Its just not as obscenely profitable as it was before. This lady is saying girls are complaining because they are no longer getting $3000/hr to screw?? Oh heavens... how terrible. Welcome to 2011 everybody... the adult entertainment industry is finally getting a taste of what the rest of the world's economy has been eating for the past 5 years.
And the BBFS issue is a matter of choice. These girls don't have to do it. Plenty of gents will pay for safe sex... they just aren't going to pay $1000 anymore.
I know a few ladies are offering "specials" now and then ,but in the escort world it seems 400 is the new 300. And most the PS's I've been interested in have kept their rates steady or have gone up a little. OK...maybe the super high end babes that are unobtaianable for most of us are experiencing a downturn but not sure it is affecting the primary hobby scene. Am I missing something?
Great article. I remember back when I got into the PSE's in 2005, there were a lot more girls, and access to them was easier. The price seems to have stayed around the same through the years.
Things have definitely changed, and I find it harder to meet the girls I wish I could.
