Adultcon is to AVN as Triple A ball is to the Show (tip 'o the cap to "Bull Durham"). And that's with incorporating AVN's cut back on floor space in recent years. Now that I think about it, maybe AA. It just doesn't have the same juice that AVN does, despite Renaud's enthusiastic efforts to the contrary. That said, if you haven't been to one of these, I recommend it. I would also recommend that you go on a Saturday afternoon, unless there's some talent you really want to meet that's going to be there at another time.
As to your compound question, in order:
How well attended it is almost assuredly hit and miss. I went to their website, looked at who they said had attended the last show we went to (September, 2010) and that list was pretty accurate so it's likely those lists can give you an idea of who has been there and who is likely to repeat.
It definitely has positive energy, upbeat for the most part and if you're into attractive, scantily-clad young women hustling you and everybody else there for whatever they're selling, then, yes, it's a fun afternoon.
My thoughts may be a tad skewed as well since I've been to the shows noted above as a vendor, not a ticket-holder and that probably makes one's perspective different. There is clearly something to being a bit of an insider and being there with people who are actually in the industry. The year we did AVN, Chennin Blanc and her husband Cheyne Collins helped man our booth and they both went out of their way to introduce me to a whole bunch of people in the industry.
It's also interesting to note that while I am very glad I've done these shows, I'm not all that eager to do it again. Working an event like that with porn chicks does evoke the phrase "herding cats!" As I always have said about it, when doing a show like that, SOMEbody has to be the adult and that role always seemed to fall to me. It makes for a long day, being the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave.
It was interesting the range of graciousness of the people I met while at these things. On a positive note, if you get a chance, do say hello to India Summer. She's one of the most gracious, sweet, down to earth people I've met there. She is also very attractive in person. On the other hand, Tory Lane, Vicky Vette and Sophie Dee were all flaming bitches. Indeed, Ms. Dee's been a bitch every time we've been introduced or interacted. In fact, the last time I saw her, she came over to our booth to talk to one of the girls I had working with me and was rude to me in my own booth. Not sure I understand that, isn't the point of these things to make people think nicely about you?
Anyhoo, I'm glad I've done them and recommend that you go. Again, Adultcon certainly isn't as elaborate or have the same number of stars as AVN but they do seem to be a bit more accessible at Adultcon.
