she's famous.  These days, with the shitty politicians we have already it's almost no wonder why people vote for these famous people with little to no previous experience/qualifications.

Hell, look at Mary Carey. When she ran for governor she finished 10th out of 133 total candidates. I'd vote for Stormy before I vote for Mary but it just proves my point.  Publicity stunt or not (as was the case w/ Mary but I don't think so w/ Stormy), she has at least a poor-fair chance of winning and prob a good chance of at least finishing respectably.

For the record, though I have not listened to her platform and/or what her plans would be I would not vote for her. Now if she said if she won and would become available for a special "I won come celebrate with me" rate..  maybe I'd reconsider! lol  :-D

Problem is, as unlikeable & as hypocritical as the incumbent Senator from LA. (David Vitter) is, Louisiana is such a red state that Stormy would have an incredibily difficult time competiting there...
Obama won a landslide election last Nov., but he got trounced in LA. (lost by 19%)..

You're probably right, but Stormy is considering challenging Senator Vitter in the Republican primary.

Looks like an effort to make a successful Republican primary challenge more likely by keeping Sen. Vitter's escort scandal fresh in the minds of voters.

Yep. Nobody had ever heard of him before Oprah became his campaign manager. I still find it scary that this guy basically came out of no where, was at best a "marginal" politician, and is now running our country. I guess anything is possible in these United States!

His speech on the floor of the DNC in summer 2004 got people talking about him...Then he won his senate race by about 50% that fall....

I thought Obama's campaign manager was David Plouffe, (least that's the guy who sent all the e-mails asking for donations, lol)....

Obama didn't win a general election because of Oprah....He won because he appealed to a large group of people....He won states like Virginia & Indiana, which haven't gone Democrat since 1964...He won North Carolina, which last voted for a Democrat in 1976....

If it had never been for Oprah he would have never even been close.  And after that there has never been a politican with some much media fan fare.  There were stories about his dogs and times at harvard, what the hell was that.  It was a popularity contest like in the 8th grade running for hall monitor....He did capture those states and I think any democrat would baed on the feeling for McCain but how he got passes Hilary and John Edwards (before anyone knew about his affair) was pure popularity contest.  There is no way he comes out of the democrat nomination.  i have asked at least a couple of hundred people (democrates) why they voted for him over  Hilary or Edwards and I get somecrap about dreams and hope nothing concrete.  Trust me, it was a popularity contest and he won.

I agree. This was also the first election ever that people voted for BOTH candidates solely on the color of their skin. People supporting both candidates had no idea what the issues were and voted simply black vs. white.
Honestly, I hope he turns out to be a great President but I just don't see it happening. One of the things I find interesting is that he'd been in office as a Junior Senator for less than six months when he decided to run for President...which means that he had 6 months more experience than ME when he made that decision!

This is a response to multiple posts in this thread.  You mean that a contest decided by direct voting of the American people has elements of a “popularity contest” to it?  Shocking!  Black versus white?  Yes a choice between a continuation of Bushonomics (as well as most other policies) or something slightly different.

Don't look to Mary Carey's results from that election as legitimizing anything...  She got 11 thousand (and change) votes.  The top 3 "legitimate" candidates had over 1 million to over 4 million votes each.  No comparison.

Don't get me wrong.  I love Mary.  She's a friend of mine.  But it was pure publicity stunt, and that "10th place" means a lot less than you seem to think it does.

Actually if she were to get elected she would become a Senator from California, not L.A., since each state in the union gets to send two people to the Senate. But, if she were to run to become a member of the House of Representatives, she could possibly be representing L.A. depending on how the districts are drawn up.

There's no way a pornstar can get elected, even in California - espcially running on the Republican ticket.  I'm sure it's a publicity stunt.

I know that an Italian pornstar (Maria Possi???) got elected to the Italian Parliment, but this country is still too puritan to ever elect a pornstar, especially one who is still actively shooting porn.

I mean I am seeinng posts of guying comparing a porn lady to professional athletes to Hilary Clinton to Barrack Obama..

Let's look at the facts
1) Obama, Clinton, Kemp, and everybody was named has a college degree..In fact some of the advanced degrees are Harvard and Yale..Enough said.
2) There is no way the country is going to vote for somebody who does sex for money..Most girls don't grow up dreaming "I want to have sex for money when I grow up" but most kids do grow up thinking "I want to be a professional athlete or a movie actor or actress"..Because the latter is a honorable and respected job..That is why actors and former athletes get elected because they are role models..There is a reason why porn ladies do not reveal their real names or the fact that most of their kids do not know what they really do..Or there is a reason why some porn ladies are run out of town when their neighbors find out what they do..

I know many escorts and porn ladies who quit and went out in the real word..Than they come back to this..Main reasons why..because they are not used to the constant rejection and the rigorous work schedule..

I think what you're seeing here is the general disapproval the country in general has for its representatives...Obama's current approval rating notwithstanding, in general, its not a great time to be a politician...the country is going through the worst economic period since the Great Depression, people are out of work and/or have lost 50% or more of their retirement, housing value continue to tumble, the war in Iraq continues to be unpopular, etc.  In California, the state is looking at a $24 billion dollar deficit while being the highest or among the highest taxed state regardless of how you measure it.  An up and coming Republican leader and Christian "promise keeper" just came out and admitted to having an affair.  And, regardless of how you view his decisions, Bush was never considered tremendously smart despite his college degrees (Remember the early pre-9/11 SNL skits using a little kid to play Bush?).  It leads people to beg the question...could Stormy Daniels (or anyone) REALLY do any worse?

I would vote for a porn star for US President over the likes of:

Sam Brownback, Alan Keyes, Pat Robertson, Newt Gingrich, Gary Bauer, etc. All of these idealogues have run for President over the years..

Could you envision a Nick Manning presidential rally - "Dropping fucking loads on the religious right"...Hey, I'd donate to his campaign & vote for him before any of the aforementioned in the last paragraph, LOL..

They call it the "popular" vote, not the "who's the best looking or smartest or wealthiest or most blonde or whatever" vote.

For the record.. there's nothing wrong with having a president more people like than dislike. There's nothing wrong with looking in the mirror and seeing possibilities where there were none before. There's nothing wrong with having a president who openly shows affection for his wife.

The media (left, right and in between) are always making big issues out of what everyone wears, the pets, the perceived snubs to other heads of state, and so on. We live in a media driven culture.

As for Ms. Daniels.. if she's a viable candidate then fine. I find that unlikely.

According to the article below.. she seems more upset that he was a porn star vs the fact he lied to her face. The stigma is strong.
