Porn Stars

The problem here is that...

Imbd, the site where our intrepid researcher did his "research".  Is loaded with inaccurate information. Profiles, ages, amount of time in the industry and crediting of actual film titles are seldom completely accurate.

IMBD is a useful tool in trying to track down the work of your favorite porn star but basing a comprehensive research project around it is something that would only be attempted by a guy with, clearly, too much time on his hands...

I was really surprised by many of the stats.  The average time in industry, the percentage that do at least 3 films and the ethnic breakdown just to state a few.

The problem with your post is that he says in the article that the site he used was IAFD which is a completely different site than IMDB.

That's not to say that IAFD is perfect but as far as porn films and porn history goes, it's much better than IMDB.

I meant to type IAFD but had IMBD on my brain...

lol, your right, as a porn source it's much better than IMBD but it is filled with errors primarily because record keeping in porn hovers somewhere between sloppy to purposefully vague.

First: it's IMDB.  It stands for Internet Movie DataBase.

Second: yes, IAFD has errors.  The difference between IAFD and IMDB though is that IAFD takes corrections whereas IMDB *says* they take corrections but you have to fight with them in many cases.  In some cases, I've had the damn dvd in my hands with the credits right there and they'd tell me that I was wrong.  Sheesh.  I've never had problems with IAFD...

IAFD was started by a fan who loved porn movies.  It continues that way.  IMDB has grown into a money-making opportunity (you get much more information, and more reliable information if you subscribe to their premium service).

Yes, IAFD is subject to errors.  Everything on the Internet is.  Even me. :-) But, it's still about 80% accurate which is damned good for a free service where no one is getting paid anything, believe me.

Not really impressed with the author's research methodology and certainly wouldn't be drawing any significant conclusions from this!

I would like to know how he come up with 10,000 pornstars out 115,000. that's only 8.7%.
