I'm not an MD, nor am i going to play armchair physican either....All i know is that i spend well over $600 on AIM tests alone, (I'm only in LA about 4x/year)...My personal MD also orders testing for me at home....I do more than ample testing for the hobby preferences i have..
I guess i don't sit & dwell on things, life is too short...I mean, if one wants a risk free lifestyle, stayed locked in a room & never come out...But what fun would that be...
Id think that if anything youd be safer with a pornstar. They are constantly required to have AIMs testing done for thier videos and website work. So they would be more safe that those that dont..of course this is my own opinion
Personally, i think there's less risk with pornstars.
You know pornstars are getting tested regularly as part of their job. It's a requirement. Even ladies that are no longer doing films are probably used to getting tested regularly so if they're providing they're far more likely to continue getting regular tests. The guys they do scenes with are also tested.
With the average girl that you pick up from CL or BP... who knows when they were last tested, or if at all. Or who they've had unprotected sex with and whether or not those guys were tested.
Sure, there have been failures in the porn industry with testing. We've all heard about them. But, overall, i think I would be comfortable having unprotected sex with a pornstar but not with the non-pornstar providers.
I did porn under the name (Ms. Panther) for 5 years. I have always been tested regularly. Even now that I don't do scenes full time, I still get tested for my own piece of mind.
As with all such questions, the real answer lies with the specifics. Most of the girls I've spent time with (Nikita, Alexandria Quinn, Chennin Blanc amongst them) have been pretty adamant about safety. They all are tested regularly and never allow anything uncovered other than oral (thank god!). I've been spending quality time with these girls for a few years now and haven't gotten as much as a cold so if everybody plays it safe, you may be at less of a risk!
As i've said before, there is a big tent in this hobby....If people choose to do everything uncovered, that is the business of a provider(s) & the client...
When my doctor orders tests, its covered under insurance...I'm spending the time (traffic on the 101 is rarely pleasant) & money to AIM test for the type of appts. i want...
I haven't gotten an STD since 1999 (which i got from an oral encounter), and I will only book uncovered appts....I take testing seriously, & won't under any circumstances do anal, nor do i use substances of any kind, never have & never will...I still get teased by a friend for drinking ROOT BEER at a college party many years ago...
I know its the American way to pass judgment (that's one reason why reality shows are so popular, we love make fun of that girl who got booted off "American Idol" & we love to see that former childhood star in celebrity rehab), but this hobby is made of adults, most of whom are college educated, and they are capable of making the choices best for themselves as to what they do...
The answer to your question is yes and no. It depends where the porn star and the alternate fall on the spectrum of risk
I would argue that some contract girls I have seen (Shay Jordan, Hanna Hilton and Sophia Santi) that only do around 7-8 films a year are way less risky than some local or touring providers that provide to way more guys a day or have of unprotected sex in her personal life.
Top porn stars also reduce their risk of contracting STD’s by selecting the male performers they will agree to work with.
I would also argue models and centerfolds are way less risky than a porn performer in the 300 club that does 60 of low budget porn scenes in 6 months.
I believe that most of the reliable and established providers get tested regularly (and some probably do not).
The porn stars also get tested regularly, but as with non-PS providers they can roam off of the range and see you before they get their next test.
This is all odds and statistics. Probably the biggest variable, which you can't control or ever know, is what is their behavior outside of their professional arena.
As with regular providers, some PS providers will be careful and some will not. In the case of the PS providers, I would hope that their peers in the industry would help them "self-select out" of porn.
