A suggestion for PSE's with websites

Two things... forget the Flash intros, (and any other flash content) and dump the java applets. (especially the one that has cute little hearts or something else following the cursor... it's REALLY annoying!)  I have a cable modem, and they still frequently take a long time to download... us horndogs (speaking for myself, at least), are anxious to get to the nitty-gritty of tour dates, rates and galleries.

Just my opinion, of course.

One of the things to be mindful of when designing websites for escorts (I suppose pornstars have some exceptions but not that different I think) is to make sure the "goods" (gallery, portfolio, etcetera) are always no more than 2-clicks away. If they are you'd be amazed how quickly visitors will give up and leave the site. Any webmaster with access to the server logs can easily verify this fact for themselves.

The more you bury the "goods" deep into the site the less visitors you will have. I am amazed how many websites still don't take this simple fact into account. They're designed by amateurs I suppose.

I have DSL and some of the sites are slow. RAM becomes an issue.

Ladies, it's about the content, not the delivery. Clear, concise, easy to navigate sites are better than gaudy sites with nothing.

And keep it updated.

Well since MR Lantern asked I will throw my .02cents worth in. On the escort websites.

Well I agree with Ed on a lot of things. Flash intro's are neat to look at but are for all intensive purposes useless. There a big waste of transfer speed and server space. The hearts and kissed that fallow the curser are really tacky. If there is anything that makes a high end lady look lowbrow that's it. Among other things. Java applets can be good and bad depending on the what there used for. Its like some flash can be good such as buttons. The other thing that is completely unneeded are audio tracks.

These are the things that can make a woman's site go from a mediocre to great.

1. superior graphics
2. great navigation
3. everything actually works
4. php or java applets for gallery's
5. contact forms that ask for information
6. pictures that actually fit for what the lady is asking rates wise
7. having all of the legal requirements such as 2257 and the 18 over entry pages
8. have in some info on there that doesn't make them seem like there all about money. I hate wish lists and stuff like that

Now personally I really dislike a site that looks like a third grader made it and the lady is asking 1k for an hour. It really makes me wonder if she's is classy enough or the level of service is there for that expense. It seems that a lot of ladies get a website and then think they can charge more for there services. But a lot of times the ladies don't put the money into the sites and it looks like crap. What a lot of ladies don't understand is that if your going to market though a personal website that its got to have some of your personality and expression in it. There has to be a well written bio and faq. There needs to be a level of quality in the site to justify the expense that there asking the guy to pay. This goes for the more asking $$$ to the lady asking 1K or more. If you look at most of the top money earners they all have there ducks in a row. And they realize this is a business and marketing is how you make your money along with reviews and first impressions.

If as a customer do to a site and its slow, pop ups, bad pics, sloppy looking hard to navigate and doesn't give me a woody or some amount of arousal I'm probably going to click right on through to the next girl.

So ladies when doing a website remember to look at it as a long term investment for your future and your over all marketing package. If you have any questions email me at [email protected]  I would be glad to help anyone that needs it.

The same is true for general business sites too simple and classy with great graphics will get you a lot of work or business or product sales.

i agree with nearly everything you've said, but wanted to add that there are tasteful exceptions to nearly all of the caveats on affective web design ... the use of audio is one of them: a few sites make good use of audio (and flash) to create an atmosphere -- for a very minimalist (non-porn) example of what i mean see:  http://www.massiveattack.com  

but one possible "exception" that *tests* the rule is Layla Jade's website IMHO.  it has that cursed animated cursor (in her case, a kiss and the English flag!) not to mention cursor-cued audio (as you move your mouse over Big Ben you can hear the bells toll and likewise you can hear a double-decker bus honk its horns -- a bit more annoying).  and then there is her own seductive voice which comes on while in various subpages ... but my point is, somehow (perhaps cuz of my affection for Layla) the sum of its parts is not less than the hole, i mean whole, and it works for me (sort of)

speaking of Layla, when is this girl gonna get the respect and recognition she deserves (beyond Buttman and the AVN awards)?   she's the hardest working gal in the jizz biz  yet seems to be relegated to a life of (relative) 'semi-obscurity'  --- a fate not uncommon for "foreign" talent.  with the possible exception of the saintly Sylvia Saint and the lovely Rebecca Lord, when was the last time a European pornstar made it to the REAL "A-list" ?

To name just a few.  Many of them were exclusive to the "Private" video company, so they didn't have as many titles as some of the American women, but they are/were every bit as hot, famous and "A" list caliber as their American counterparts.

a bit of both i think, cuz i only know of 4 names on that list (Nikita, Lindsey, Chloe and Wanda) and all of them in a very sketchy way (except for Nikita Denise of course ;-)

but i challenge you, Master, to tell me if anyone of these (Euro) girls we're talking about are (or ever were) truly on the "REAL A-list" of porn (my exact statement) -- for example, like Jenna and Jill currently are (businesswomen with their own production companies, etc)

that's really what i meant by foreign talent not quite "making it" in this bizness.  but i could be wrong.

Well there are kinda of 2 problems with both of your statement eddie and singleton. First off the really only A list stars are well about 10 of them. IF That.

serenity
silva saint (only european)
traci lords
savannah

maybe bella donna (currently)


OK these are about all i can think of that have really made an impact on the porn world so to speak. And as i have listed even some of these are questionable.
I did not list Jill because being the name on a company doesnt make you A list it just makes your business managers smarter then the rest.

Really its kinda a sad statement  but as A list or top of the heap for name recongintion its  really Jenna Jameson  as A list

And then the rest are lke AA and AAA kinda like baseball

As for foriegn talent  there simply isnt any that range much more then AAA maybe a AA   layla jade has done way over 300 maybe even 400 movies by now but shes never gotten her ducks in a row for marketing or PR so shes really kinda unknown. Until recently shes not gotten much if any exposure.

Jodie moore isnt really any better really. Nici sterling  or I think its Nikki Anderson ?? not sure but about as close to A list as you get for european

Well, it really depends on how you define "A" list.

My definition is geared more toward any girl who's appearance on a box cover means a hit video... I think that's a legitimate definition.  Compare it to Hollywood.  You don't have to have made an impact on the industry or crossed over from actor to director or producer to be considered an A-list star.  People like Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, and formerly Clint Eastwood, Arnold Schwartzenegger, Sly Stallone and Burt Reynolds, for example, all commanded $20+ million per picture because their name above the title almost always guarantees (or guaranteed) a profitable movie.  That's the VERY definition of an A list star in Hollywood... someone that every producer and director wants in their movies.  And if that's good enough for Hollywood, it certainly should be good enough for fuck flicks.

So to hold porn actors to a higher standard in order to be qualified as an A-list star is somewhat unfair and more than a little bit unrealistic.  If instead you said that having an "impact on the porn world" would qualify them as "legends", I might be more inclined to agree, but then your list becomes questionable... in fact, calling most of them as an A list star I think is stretching it for all but Jenna Jameson and Traci Lords.  Nina Hartley MIGHT qualify because of her longevity and Savannah because of her "back story", but Serenity certainly has NO place on the list, nor does Silvia Saint, Chasey Lain, Taylor Hayes OR Belladonna... Beautiful?  Yes... Popular?  Yes, but no more qualified to be considered A list (by your definition) than Janine, Asia Carerra, Britttany Andrews or a couple dozen others who are just as beautiful and just as (or even more) popular.  Janine, Asia and Brittany ALL have longer and more illustrious careers than Serenity, Silva Saint, Taylor Hayes and even Chasey.

Using your definition of people who have made an "impact" on porn, my list would include:

Linda Lovelace (who took porn mainstream)

Gorgina Spelvin

Seka (the first really stunning woman to do hard core)

Traci Lords (not for her infamy, but because she was the first real porn "superstar" - The Jenna Jameson of her day)

Marilyn Chambers (The first "girl next door" pornstar)

Keisha (the first big ethnic (Hispanic) superstar)

Nina Hartley and Kay Parker (who proved that you didn't have to be in your 20's to be popular in porn)

Jamie Gillis and Harry Reams (who brought humor, good acting and in Jamie's case, real kink to adult films)

Ron Jeremy (just for being Ron Jeremy)

John Leslie and Paul Thomas (two of the first who crossed over from acting to directing)

and you could possibly make a case for:
Torri Wells
Christy Canyon
Teri Weigel (the first Playmate pornstar)
Ed Powers (who raised gonzo to an art form)

Oh, and a list or European A list pornstars, if you're going to include Nici Sterling, would also have to include Taylor Wayne, who's still going strong and is as stunningly beautiful now as she was 10 years ago.

going back to my original points in this sub-thread (the exception proves the rule in web desigh  AND  Layla Jade floundering) i now see that i'd rather come back forward to my  new point, which is:  if Ron Jermey can make the "list"  for being Ron Jeremy  why can't Belladonna make the list for who she is (admittedly not the most DDG girl in porn, but certainly unique in her hunger for genitalia! :-)

When Belladonna reaches THAT benchmark, she'll qualify.

But look at it OBJECTIVELY, and remove any personal attraction to her, and what remains is (no offense, Singleton) just one of a long list of pornstars who are over-the-top sexually...
