But I agree with the internet.
But this will be the down fall for Hugh Hefners empire.
I mean why not just buy Maxum now.
They should be going more hardcore, not more softcore, if they want to compete. But maybe with the saturation of the market and all the free porn sites, no one can compete. Maybe they should just file bankruptcy.
Let's face it, naked centerfolds, ESPECIALLY in recent years, were ALL Playboy had to offer.
I remember YEARS ago, I finally got what was probably every young man's dream: a Playboy subscription!
I cancelled after a year.
First, you had porn in theaters, then VHS, DVD, and now via the internet, more explicit and with more variety than Playboy could ever provide.
So all you had left was this DATED, LAZY magazine. I mean, I see why Hef is always in pajamas: he barely rolled out of bed to produce the damn thing! Old fonts, unnecessary articles, CHEESY fashions. It's like they set the template in 1979 and never changed course!
So, where does that leave Playboy today? You got GQ, Esquire, and Details for fashion. You got Men's Journal for adventure, and you got Men's Health and Men's Fitness for health/exercise. I really don't see, even IF they do a much needed MAJOR overhaul, where they fit in today's men's magazine market.
I predict that the magazine will FOLD within the next few years, and Playboy, like other famous brands, will end up making most of its income from licensing their infamous brand. You read it here first.
A sign of the times I guess. Playboy should get credit for some great first time celebrity nudes. Ones that come to mind are Suzanne Sommers, LaToya Jackson, Lisa Rinna, Torrie Wilson, Mimi Rogers. Great work Hef.
Who cares if you can find free porn on the internet. Free is a catch all. Playboy was about quality. Playboy had the prettiest models carefully selected, high end top of the line professional lighting, photo retouching, it was art. It really is sad that they are going this direction.
