Porn Stars

Guys,

THis has been a topic of discussion before but I will mention it again. The pornstar database is now useless... There are over 400 providers listed under this category that don't come close to meeting the criteria of a porn actress. Whenever you go into a provider profile and report a problem, if TER agrees you get a credit of a day. If everyone was willing to go through it, it could be cleaned up and alot of free access time.

Longer term, I hate to say it but it was a bad idea. I suggested it to TER because I thought it would serve the community, but no one on staff wants to make the effort to police it and review what gets listed in this category.  Without a willingness to screen it, it has not become so watered down as to be useless..

Why you continue complaining and making a big deal out of such an insignificant issue? The majority of the readers already know who is and who isn't a Pornstar.

Since it was your initiative for which this additional filter was created then it should be your responsibility to maintain it. Why continue criticizing the management if the Pornstar expert is you and not they?

I suggest for you to either clean it up or shut up and move on.

Your always telling everyone to shut up or stop being a baby, yet on a whole I would say you are the least mature poster here.

Dude recognized he made a mistake and was asking for help - he didn't really deserve to be blasted by a guy who hides behind an alias.

Why don't you heed some of your own advice!

Since it was Ferangi's idea to add this filter to the search criteria and since no one seems to take ownership and correct the data, I suggest Ferangi for instead of complaining to go ahead and clean it up or ask to have it removed.

Carl thanks for your compliments of calling me the least mature poster here. You must have done an exhaust research to determine such thing or maybe you and the rest just think so, for which I'm grateful and deeply touched.

PS - We all hide behind aliases Carl, we blast and get blasted at times too; it’s just part of the fun.

Thanks Carl..

I did make a mistake... I thought it would be a good idea and make it easier for some of those that did not know who all the pornstars were to find there reviews in an easier fashion.

I did not realize that it would become my sole responsibility to maintain it..

Ferangi,

From what I can tell by reading the hobbyists posts, most of the contributors do have a good knowledge of who is and who isn't a Pornstar. For those that aren't, they can always search on IAFD, IMDB, Excalibur Films, The Floating world, and many other sites.

I suggest you be the one to do the cleaning up because you are the Only one constantly complaining.

Just ask STAFF to remove this category/filter so you don’t suffer a stroke.

Actually,

Lord of the Rings that is not true. Others have also complained on this board several months ago. I probably have been the most vocal about it. There is benefit to even the experienced hobbyists of having this cleaned up. If it is accurate, then when I launch the filter, I can see quickly which of my favorite porn stars have had recent reviews. By letting this thing get so out of hand, I have to scroll down endless number of pages to find them.
And it is in everyone's interest to keep it clean. For your information, every time you report a false listing under problem report in a providers profile, if TER checks it out and agrees with you, you get two days of free memebership added on. THis can add up to be quite alot.

I simply don't have the time to correct all the errors. I don't think I was out of line expecting TER to do some basic level of screening. Once they put it out there, they do own it, not me..

But I do concede that maybe not enough people to care or TER would be responding. So I guess I should do the work or shut up about it...

Although most readers of this board do have a good knowledge of who is and who isn't a porn star I think the database field does serve a purpose.  It is alot easier to just set the porn star field to yes and then get a list of all the porn star reviews.  Aside from being helpful to the newer readers this can be helpful to veterans by pointing out the newer girls entering the porn ranks.  Remember, alot of the porn stars of taday were escorting prior to doing porn and advertised on escort sites.  This is a good way to find those who have only made a few videos.

Unfortunately, as many readers expected, this field has become less useful just like the PSE acronym.  The acronym originally was only used for actual porn stars who provided a certain level of service.   However, escorts who have never done porn now use the acronym in marketing and hobbyists use it in their reviews of non porn star escorts.  The field in the TER database is suffering the same problem.  In addition to the suggestion already mentioned of going through and correcting the current selections I would recommend a change the description of the field.  Instead of just having Porn Star as the name of the field maybe it could be changed to a question.  For example, Has said provider performed in any commercially released hardcore pornographic videos?  This will not get rid of the problem but it might cut down on the number of yes answers for non porn star providers.

Maybe require the field to be filled with a list of some videos, but then again somebody could fill in anything and who has time to check it.  It is very frustrating as is your comments that now the PSE acryonmn is being watered down. I almost wish there was some list that had porn stars registered to that could be used as a filter to weed out in some automated fashion if the person is or is not a porn star.

In any event, if you want to take some time and clean it up, I have bee doing so when I have spare time, and they do give you free membership days...

When Staff had this change implemented, I talked to him about the desgnation.

Please note guys, it does not say porn STAR....instead it's a porn ACTRESS designation.

The differentiation is (according to Staff) that one man's starlet is another man's fluff girl. The bottom line is that anyone who has appeared in some "type" of porn can be qulified as an actress.

I won't debate, nor allow any semantic debate about this designation to continue. You all have varying degrees of opinions and that's your entitlement. Having a level of programming development knowledge, I realize that modifying the database to accomodate the check box request and updating the queries to include it as a sort paramater were not too terribly painfull. However, the validation requesting that some of you have wanted is beyond the scope of reasonable-unless you want to PAY Staff for the programming time.

I sometimes wonder why you really need the sort capability anyway, if you know the name of the actress, you can search that way. If you just want to see the newest actress reviews, I'm farily certain there's a way to sort by those criteria as well.

I wasn't questioning the term.  As soon as a lady appears in a hardcore video they will consider themself a porn star.  I think we have all come to that realization.  I was just trying to suggest a more descriptive caption for the field so that only ladies who have actually appeared in a commercially released video get the box checked.

I agree with you JBIRDCA.

As I've said, I still don't get it. The majority of the readers of this board do know who is and isn't a pornstar. Since Staff made it a more open filter, is useless to continue talking about it.

Ferangi, if the readers were insterested in getting 2 days for each correction, don't you think they would have cleaned up the databse?

Forget about it and move one. Remember, this job in pure volunteer and neither you or JBIRDCA are getting paid to work for TER.

Ferangi,

TER is a community policed site.  These means that we rely on the membership to help us make sure that the database is correct.  We get in over 50 new providers mixed in with 400 to 500 reviews submitted per day.  It would be very difficult for us to make sure each and every new provider is or is not a porn actress.

The community asked for this designation on the provider’s profile.  I am asking the community... The porn community... to help maintain it.  You are the experts.
