First let me say I am not being paid to endorse any testing standard or any company. I have a vested interest in getting people to test regularly based on their sexual activity. My motivation is if I could get mainly sex workers (but hobbyists also), to independently agree to follow a standard, then I can go to lets say, blue cross blue shield and say something like, I have "1,000" very healthy adult industry workers that are interested in purchasing a health care plan. Ive tested it, BCBS and the major carriers are interested.

AIM Health Care in California and, Analyte Media who runs STDTestExpress.com offer "all" testing technologies. STDTestexpress is geared to the non industry consumer, completely private and has put together very aggressive pricing structure. AIM is geared for the porn industry since the results have to be made available to industry producers & such. Aim also has non industry testing but it's pricing isn't as competitive as stdtestexpress. They both use primarily LabCorp for the drawing and testing.

I have 2 allies at Cook County Health Department and CDC who are eager to see people play safer. They aren't worried about the politics of the hobby, simply they want to lower the incidents of infection. Here's a few guidelines they've been talking about as it relates to adult industry & sex workers self regulation

Free clinics are always an option for those who aren't worried about anonymity. However typically the clinics only offer HIV antibody, rarely offer DNA testing & Chlamydia & Gonorrhea

HOW OFTEN DO I GET TESTED;
-SEX WORKERS - Should test HIV antibody, Chlamydia & Gonorrhea tested every 90 days. If you haven't been tested in awhile and have been active, consider HIV DNA testing initial.  IF there are any incidents, accidents, stupid decisions, the sex worker should re-establish with DNA testing* immediately, then again in 30 days, then back to antibody every 3 months.

-HOBBYISTS - people who see sex workers or have more than 2 sex partners per month. Should be HIV antibody, Chlamydia & Gonorrhea testing every 3-6 months, but minimum twice per year. If you havent been tested in awhile and have been active, consider HIV DNA testing initial. Also during your live experiences if you make a bad decision or a mistake, take a risk, have an accident or whatever, get HIV DNA testing to re-establish health. then back to antibody testing every 3-6 months.

-PORN STARS - should be tested HIV DNA, Chlamydia & Gonorrhea every 28-30 days while actively working. Full DNA panel every 6-12 months. This allows for efficient information sharing between adult porn performers. so if someone fucks up, there is a small window of performers he/she need to contact between last 2 tests.

*HIV antibody does not detect infection until 3-6 months after exposure. For early detection (i think its 1-2 weeks after exposure) it is recommended you receive HIV DNA testing with antibody backup.

*HIV DNA by PCR. This is an advanced early detection method. While some speculate it will detect as early as 3-5 days after exposure, it's agreed by the medical industry that 3 weeks is assured.

WHERE DO I GO FOR TESTING?

Your local clinic should provide hiv antibody testing, they typically don't offer DNA and probably don't offer chlamydia & gonorrhea so you'll have to go to your doctor or places such as AIM or STDTestExpress. STD Test Express is 100% anonymous. AIM non industry is private, but industry puts your info on a database that authorized producers and medical professionals have access to

Any doctor should be able to write a script for their patient to get STD tests (HIV, RPR, Hepatitis C, etc)...Just like any other test (cholesterol screenings, CBC, metabolic profile, etc) a MD writes in an ICD-9 code to justify the test(s) being ordered...

But AIM testing is essential for me so i will continue to utilize their services as well...

Most insurance companies already offer testing as part of their HMO plans.  Mine offers regular testing for HIV, Chlamydia, and gonorrhea.  They also cover periodic testing for syphilis.  The amount paid varies by insurance companies and by plan.  My company covers them for free - no co-payment.

I don't care where you go to get tested, just stay tested.

stdtest express was selected because they ACCEPT INSURANCE, they also off advanced dna testing as well as regular antibody testing (doesn't cover 3-6 months prior to exposure.)

AIM was suggested due to advanced dna options and fast turn around.

Doesn't matter where you go for testing, as long as you go but, since most men desire privacy and  a script is not necessary to be tested for hiv/std tests (no doctor needs to approve someones desire to be tested. Most people dont want to go to their doctor and ask for it...just an unnecessary step.  

Most insurance companies WON'T PAY unless you go through your doctor.  In fact, the labs around me simply turn you away if the test wasn't ordered by a doctor.

And, in this day and age, for someone to be embarrassed to talk about such things with their doctor... well, I just think there's more wrong than the need (or desire) to be tested.  If you can't trust your doctor you shouldn't be going to that doctor IMO.

write the script. Again, I don't care where you go or how you go about it. You have the luxury of having your testing routines logged and put on your medical record, have fun and great for you.

But for the rest of guys, most men aren't in the same position as you where they want their doctor to be involved in their quartly or bi-annual testing. So you continue to do your thing baby. for the rest of us, these companies offer privacy options that suit their privacy and discretionary needs.
