I'm considering taking the plunge and shelling out a bit extra for my first pornstar experience. Many of them allow recording as well and that's something I'd like to try, as most non PS providers understandably do not offer this. My question to you all is: what kind of video equipment do you use? The ideal setup, I suppose, would be a camcorder and a tripod, but I don't want to haul that to a session. I do own an iPad, though the lack of a vertical stand makes it problematic as a recording device. I'm really hoping an iPad might work, but I'd like to get other people's takes on this. I don't currently own a camcorder, but if the consensus is that a camcorder and tripod is necessary, I suppose I'll have to get one or just dial down my expectations. Would like to hear if anyone's actually managed to make an iPad work for filming a session, though. Also, has anyone hired a camera person for the express purpose of filming? I did ask this once but got shot down.

You'll have to excuse me for being a bit teary eyed, but I actually asked about this same question of the late Fast Eddie (RIP). Wans't here on TER, but what's the dif. He spoke a bit over my head (too techie for me at the time I think), but overall some appreciated info.

Don't think you need a camcorder per se, one of today's digital cameras should do fine. The one I got years ago did pretty decent video and I'm sure nowadays the quality is much better. Hell I just saw one that did 3D which might be wonderful if your model is, um, very 3 dimensional. Okay, I mean she has big tits, there I said it. You could always borrow a camcorder from a retailer. If it's that important just use the camcorder for your event and return it once you're done. One, please keep from getting any fluids all over it. You think its a stretch, but you'd be suprised depending who you're with. Not everybody can contain themselves. Second, make sure you remove the video before it goes back unless you wanna give someone a freebie. Now before some scoff at the idea, early on I did this, but to my credit I did go back a buy another shortly after, it just recorded on memory card as opposed to tape (ugh). As for the tripod, even if you just use it for the digital camera its worth it. They're cheap and some in different sizes and collapse easily for transport and unless you're gonna do a POV thing (and its harder than it looks), you aren't stuck propping it up somehow on a table or something. The only other thing I can touch on is lighting. If the room your in is too dark, it could be a prob. Of course, again today's cameras are kick ass, including operating in low light.
Well, if you aren't gonna use a camcorder ever again, just go for a decent digital camera that does nice video, a good sized memory card, a fully charged battery and small travel tripod and you should be good. An iPhone might do in a pinch, but an iPad would be a bit awkward, but if your considering using that, then less than a camcorder should do. Personally, I don't think I would be comfortable with a camera person in the room, but that's something outta my range.
And most importantly, you should be sure you've got the lady's okay to save the memory of your visit. Don't piss anyone off please.

Well, I don't know if any of this is of any value, but it's free. As for me, like I said, I'm reminiscing.

The late Fast Eddie and I exchanged a number of e-mails on this subject, but before giving you an equipment list consider, if you will, whether this is a good idea as part of your 1st PSE experience.  Unless you simply want to put a camera on a tripd, press 'record' and forget about it, shooting an actual Scene involves a good deal of thought and planning.  It's pretty easy to turn what should be a fun experience into work.  If the video is going to be something that's seriously erotic, then you've got to consider proper audio, proper lighting, and actually blocking out your scene (i.e. where you are going to set the camera for which angle). A lot of guys seem to think they can simply turn on the camera and the result will be seriously hot...and then they look at the video, and it's not.

Personally, I would never consider recording during my first time with any escort.  It also really helps if the lady has appeared in videos before. She might actually be able to offer input (no pun intended).  The best videos I shot were with a lady who has been in many videos and understood camera angles and how to light the scene. (She instructed me on the proper use of a "Pussy Light" as she referred to it).   She also was very adept at getting me stiff as a board when needed and how to get ready both of us ready for the "money shot".

It is very easy to get so wrapped up in the technical aspects of shooting that you forget about having fun. Or worse, you get so wrapped up in shooting that you have difficulty "performing".  

....just something to consider.

I would ditto most of the above-u need to balance between having fun and recording/directing the scene. It does become diff when u're filming vs just being in the moment. But def have fun, and worse case it's just for ur own use anyways.

If I am paying a certain amount than I definetly request that I get a camera guy or girl to record it. If the girl is really good than you forget that the camera person is in the room.

And when your funds are really low it is great to just put in a DVD and watch yourself banging a hot porn star.

My first  videotaped experience was with ZaSu Knight and than I did it with Janet Mason (her husband taped it).
