That would suck if I was in the studio audience!

Letter does his show in the Ed Sullivan Theater, the place the Beatles made their very first appearance in the U.S.

McCartney was awesome... he played outside on top of the theater's marquee to about 10,000 people standing on Broadway.

Hey  Eddie, see my post below about Tanya Tate! LOL

what was funny was that at that exact same time over on Conan, Dana Carvey was doing his Paul McCartney impressions!

get back, get back to where we belong!  :-)

McCartney did his Letterman appearance with class and style. He's just that kinda guy.

When asked about Michael Jackson, he took the high road. But it's obvious that just below the surface he's hurt about how Jackson bought out the Beatles catalog behind McCartney's back. As McCartney said, he never got any straight answers from Jackson on what he did. However, he did say that Jackson was a real talent - and that was an unexpected and classy move.

As for Sir Paul's performance, what can you say, Paul still can play the jams! Get Back on the marque - that was an outstanding nod to his last performance with the Beatles on the rooftop.

Classy musician!

What did they do with the studio audience while Paul was performing?  Did they bring them outside?

I don't know first hand, but my guess is that there would be no way logistically to bring the studio audience outside. Without the studio audience, the street crowd was in the thousands. They probably relayed a live video feed for them to enjoy.

That's just my guess. I could be wrong.

They DID bring them outside. They had a space for them and during one the commercial bumpers, they showed all of the people comming out to the street.

It was his lame idea to make Northern Songs a publicly traded company in 1965 in order to avoid capital gains tax.  It was an even lamer decision on his part to sell his his entire 15% share of Northern Songs to Associated Television (ATV) in 1969.  It was mentally retarded of him to not buy ALL of ATV on his own for a mere $20 million in 1981 rather than back out because the recently widowed Yoko Ono balked at putting up half the money.  As a result ATV fell victim to a typical 1980's hostile takeover to corporate raider who made a profit by selling various components separately -- such as ATV Music Publishing (nee NORTHERN SONGS).  In 1985 McCartney was offered ATV Music for $45 MILLION (!), but the parsimonious composer felt that was too big a chunk out of $560 Million in personal assets and passed.  Michael Jackson outbid all other takers with a $47.5 million offer, an amount which was equivalent to over half his personal fortune at that time.

I'm a huge Beatles fan and I have to agree. Unless McCartney's money was tied up in this or that.. he has to buy his music back, period.

Well yeah, if my own pea-brained opinion counts for anything on this, sure, it would be great to see Sir Paul buy back his music and / or (The Beatles music) I'm sure he's got his hands in soooo many different things. Keep in mind folks, no matter his business decisions, he is a billionaire. Not bad for a mop top Liverpool kid. :)

Actually, while I'm not certain, I think Paul has regained ownership of all Lennon-McCartney songs.

No, he has not, and at this point, that might be quite impossible. I highly doubt that Sony would be willing to sell off their portion of one of the HIGHEST grossing catalogues they own, and if they DID, it would now be worth somewhere in the low Billions. They are re-releasing the entire catalogue, Re-Mastered, this sept, as well as having the new Rock Band Beatles game comming out... they aren't looking to sell this thing. There's no way.
