Take this into account lets say you where a hobbyists and you saw a provider that hasn't done any porn movies and she is over 50 and she has an agency, and her rates are 1100plus would you say that her price was outrageous are would you say she was worth it because she uses an agency.

That most porn stars utilize a booker, personal assistant, or an agency...thus, a percentage of their rate is going to these people = higher rates for porn stars?    
       
   I've read posts on this board, where once hobbyists book a porn star via bookers or agencies, hobbyists book directly with the provider (cutting the 3rd party out of their fees) and hobbyists have paid lower rates.

so I have been asked this numerous times... why is your rate higher? what makes you special? rather than get upset or even mad about someone asking this I simple explain... I am not a hour to hour girl. My time is precious, Im a pornstar first and foremost. If you are going to be intimate with me, I will leave you with a memory you will never forget. You make good points.  So do others who have responded.  However, there are some who would say that the rates are beyond reason.  Sure, a porn star can and should command higher rates than a non-pornstar.  But some of the rates are way out of line.  What makes one porn star worth $1000/hr and another $3000/hr?  The average non-porn star escort, in a large market like NYC or LA gets around $300-$500/hr (I'm talking GFE-type girls here).  The rate for a porn star should not be more than double those numbers.  Also, the quality of performance matters - the porn star who offers GFE should get more than those who don't, yet that's not the case.  

In reality though, every girl who escorts (porn star or not) asks for the rate that she thinks she is worth.  It's up to the guys to determine if that's a fair and reasonable price.  The reason porn stars are able to get $2K or more is because there are guys willing to pay that amount and the girls know it.  If guys weren't paying, the prices would drop.

I know I'm going to get dumped on for this but, IMO, the rates are way too high, beyond reason, and it's the fault of the guys that it is so, and not the girls.

guys pay for the fantasy-  personally for the most part, I agree that the price is too high, because I can see a high quality provider with probably as good or better service in the 300-500 range versus $1,000- $1,500 or more for well known pornstar-  but some guys will pay it, so who am I to say they charge too much-  if I don't want to pay that price there are plenty of other alternatives

I think both Joe and Mr. F are correct and the fantasy part of the equation is a very big factor.  I have only had one PSE provider, Miko Lee and it was awesome and a total fantasy experience.  Having said that it is difficult to see her as she doesn't travel very often and I don't get to LA very much.

What I don't get are the touring women who are charging $800 to $1,000 an hour and while beautiful they are escorting women like some of the wonderful ladies who are at $300-400.

You hit the bullseye with this one. You are correct guys are paying to much and it has to stop, providers are asking crazy prices for their services porn stars  and non porn stars. Let's be honest you see a profile of a provider and you think I want to meet her but you wait to contact her, so when you do her price went up 100/150 more than before. It's crazy how these ladies come up with these prices. We need to put a cap on the hobby.

Saying prices "should" be X while at the same time recognizing that the market sets prices are 2 things that can't be reconciled.  The market is what the market is and short of collusion,  price fixing or contracts of adhesion you either pay premium prices for some girl who was lucky enough to get her name in lights or you move on.

I have to say that this has been an interesting thread. We as an agency do not set the rates for the ladies we rep...they tell us what they want to advertise/charge. We do our best to advise them of what the market might bare when it comes down to things.
Fame is the biggest part...Porn-stars are a niche category.  Some girls want huge rates...and they don't get booked so rates get changed. Others realize that they can make MORE money at a more competitive rate cause MORE fans can afford to see them. It just depends on what they feel comfortable with. We often run special for girls that are wanting more work..but that's something the girls approve of first.

In many large cities, particularly the big 5, NY, Chi, LAX, Mia, Atl there are a comparatively large number of 'highly compensated' employees with high stress jobs. For them, given that they make $1m plus a year they think nothing of $2G's for an hour with a moderately famous porn star. There is also the Arab sheik version of this; out of the desert for a couple weeks of fun, with $200m in the bank, blowing $5k to bang a blonde of his choice is chump change. This is also why these cities tend to have a large number of over the top steak houses with $100 steaks.  I make $1.5m why not blow $300 on dinner.
These effects tend to distort part of the market.  
Its also why a man has got to know his limitations. If the ladies can get it, regardless of their age or history, by all means get it while you can. For me, I will stick with those great people who make me happy.
