The Obscenity Task force was started under President Bush, then disbanded by the Obama Administration....Now when Jeff Sessions becomes the next AG, probably by early February, don't be surprised if this task force is revived...

I knew when the guy who won in Nov, can't remember his name but i think he was on The Apprentice at one time, the religious right was going to make sure they get their way on certain issues, one being the prosecution of adult entertainment....

Then again, obscenity cases are NOT smoking gun, confession on audio/video easy cases to win 12-0 verdicts, but at the very least, could force adult entertainment industry to spend considerable time and money defending them.....

Valid point made.  Only fitting that his boss enjoyed golden showers from Russian hookers.  When it comes to hypocrisy, the religious right and right wingers in general certainly have a corner on the market !!

You mean President Chump? :-)

And, yes, we can expect things to change for the worse.  Backpage shutting down its adult entertainment pages is just the first step.

At no point has an AG ever not had other things on his or her plate.  But that doesn't stop the self-righteous religious zealots from trying to control what we watch.  Don't be naive - Sessions now controls an entire agency - he doesn't have to do this himself.  It takes little more than the stroke of a pen for Sessions to re-start this task force.

So I'm curious, what did this obscenity task force get accomplished under the Bush administration? As far as I can tell things have just gotten wilder and wilder every year since the internet has been around.

I guess you might see some aggressive attempts to go after some S&M sites that go too far and clearly put people in danger (both men and women) but I would be really surprised if Trump -- who is by far and away the most socially liberal republican to ever hold the presidency--- wants to burn political capital on chasing down obscenity violators.

Now if they pick a fight with him.....thats another story.

Anybody remember the Meese Commission?

"... the result of a comprehensive investigation into pornography ordered by U.S. President Ronald Reagan. It was published in July 1986 and contains 1,960 pages."

"The report is divided into five parts and 35 chapters and details most aspects of the pornography industry, including the history of pornography and the extent of First Amendment protections. The report also documents what the committee found to be the harmful effects of pornography and connections between pornographers and organized crime. The report was criticized by many inside and outside the pornography industry, calling it biased, not credible, and inaccurate.[1][2]

The "Meese Report" was preceded by the report of presidents Lyndon B. Johnson's and Richard Nixon's Commission on Obscenity and Pornography, which was published in 1970 and recommended loosening the legal restrictions on pornography."

I've never been able to find a PDF on line and it's apparently no longer available from the Government Printing Office.
