I was in a local dept. store yesterday perusing the magazine rack when my eyes caught the Nov. issue of Rebel Ink with Janine on the cover. She has a pictorial and interview that was done before she went to jail so naturally I checked it out. Man, I was shocked at what I saw! Full sleeves, backpiece, and quite a few on her torso & legs. I remember getting a LOT of mileage out of her first Penhouse spread from 1987 ( which I still have), she was 19, all natural and unmarked. At 40, she still has a beautiful face & body, but I can't believe how overboard she went with the ink. :(

i can see the fetish/kink aspect of it, esp. in pornstars who are meant for "disposable fun"

but i don't think guys who do realize what it means for a girl to live with them for the rest of her life ... of the societal limitations it puts on them, in terms of employment, "respectability" etc


crazy hairstyles, trendy clothes and even modest piercings are one thing. once you're through with that phase in your life, you can take them off and move on. tats are a different story

back in 79 i had piercings and safety pins all over my tattered clothes. i thought i'd never take them off (i was a punk-rocker 4 life!) but things change and i'm so very glad they did :-)

She limited her future employment opportunities more by being a very recognizable porn star and going to jail for tax evasion than for her tats.

Sure she'd have a hard time finding a job in Middle America and certain other places, but not in LA or SF, and other parts of the country.

just look at Tracy Lords. she was the most infamous pornstar of her day ("tainted for life" one might say) and eventually was able to leave all that behind, marry a rich dude, have the dream Malibu wedding (or a decent facsimile of it) and apparently live happily ever after as a well-to-do housewife and mother, even wrote a memoir and was interviewd on CNN  etc ... and all the while she even did those campy John Waters films and shined at doing them too (better than anything Sasha Grey has done!)

in fact, i just sneaked a peek at her Wiki page to see if anything had changed, and according to it she's had an even more idyllic life! LOL


now, do you think that if she had inked up like Janine back in the day, she'd have any of that? her circle of life would be pretty much restricted to bikers, meth-heads, white supermacists and whatnot

Like you said, Tracy Lords married a rich dude... since when is that the same as getting a job? Her accomplishment was finding a guy with money to marry her? if that's the case, i'm sure Janine could shack up with some rocker and live the life.

If you think just because you have or like tattoos you are a biker, meth-head, or white supremacist that you are a bigot. However, I do detect a tone of comedy on your post so I'm going to assume you were kind of kidding.

Look at how many athletes are tatted these days. I just think these are different times and people don't care as much anymore.

For me, the ideal amount of tats are what Mason Moore and now Sarrah Jessie have.

but just to be clear, Tracy married that dude long after "cleaning up her act" and doing more-or-less ok on her own (the John Waters movies etc)

the Brett Michaels of the world could probably marry someone like Janine (maybe!) but no rich successful businessman ever would. they want a beautiful trophy wife that could conceivably pass as a "lady" in social settings ... and then fuck their brains in the bedroom like a pornstar! LOL

No it wouldn't. Rachel, i really hope that you continue to resist the urge to fuck up your PERFECT body with that crap. I commend you for thinking about the future and how getting something like a sleeve could have a negative impact on future employment. Yeah, i know it's wrong for people to stereotype someone just because they have multiple tats, but unforetunately the REALITY is that for too many  people such a thing carries a negative connotation. I don't have a problem with a tat here and there. I just don't like extremes. To me the shit screams "look at me." But that's just my opinion.

You could lose some work I guess. Having tattoos have not hurt me in my job area at all (granted, I'm not running around shirtless in the office) You'd be surprised how many new young lawyers have tats.
