Porn Stars

I tried making a couple of posts earlier in the week about Tanya Tate's London tour, both of which were deleted. Not completely sure why since I was trying to point out something of interest to people  on this  board that Tanya herself had posted on the Other Cities board. i.e. her brief availability to hobbyists later this month.

As far as I can see, (having done a search), Tanya herself hadn't posted on the pornstar board, so I thought it was worth bringing to peoples' attention in case they missed the announcement on the other board.

Yes, posting availability on the PS Board is an ad or a shill thread. Even if you think it's "worth bringing to peoples' attention", it's still against the rules.

Here are the rules in question.

http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion_boards/viewmsg.asp?MessageID=75545&boardID=33&page=

"Provider ADs cannot be posted by anyone other than themselves, their booker, or another provider.

Ladies, do not ask guys to post ads for you—it only gets them moderated."

http://www.theeroticreview.com/discussion_boards/viewmsg.asp?boardID=33&Messageid=75538

" A Shill Thread is a thread that is started with a post that is praise, thanks, or a recommendation for a certain provider for reasons of self-interest, personal benefit, or out of friendship or loyalty. Starting a new thread with a Shill Post is not allowed by TER because such threads are considered extra "advertising" above and beyond what each provider is allowed each week.

Shill Threads are not allowed, and will be removed.

Mini-Reviews posted according to the Posting Guidelines are not considered to be Shill Posts.

Responses to a current thread that refers to a provider with positive comments about that provider is okay, as long as the comment is pertinent to the topic at hand."

Tanya obviously knows how to post an ad, since she posted one on the Other Cities board. She's welcome to post ads  here. But you are not, nor is any other hobbyist.

Thanks for the reply. I completely understand why there are rules to prevent the board from being saturated with constant provider ads.

However, I would argue pointing out an existing post on another TER board hardly qualifies as a new ad or shill. It's a shame the "discretion and judgment" part of the guidelines isn't always used, taking the circumstances of a post into account. I'd humbly suggest the main reason most guys come here is for information about porn stars and their availability. Well worth remembering.

The fact of the matter is that yes, if given an inch, people will abuse advertising privileges on the boards for miles. We deal with this every day- people who won't follow the rules, which aren't hard to follow. There's also the factor that the provider should be in control of her advertising, not leaving it to her fans. Again, why do you assume that Miss Tate didn't know she could post an ad on the PS Board, and that she did not intentionally leave off the PS Board for her advertising? Did she ask you to promote her here? So why do you feel it's your job to do it?

Also, I'm going to quote you:

"Having met Tanya more than once while she was in the UK, I can say with authority that she is absolutely stunning and you'll have a brilliant time - a real mix of beauty with a genuinely nice personality. Of the 30 plus porn stars I've seen, she definitely ranks as my number one and I definitely won't be wasting this opportunity!"

If that is not the absolute, textbook definition of a shill (as I posted above), I don't know what is. So basically, I'm supposed to completely ignore the rules for you because Miss Tate did such an excellent job for you?

If you'd care to get off your supercilious high horse for a moment you'll see I wasn't posting a new ad, merely highlighting what Miss Tate herself had posted. Our interpretations of what constitutes a new ad clearly differ.

When posting about a PS I like to do so from a position of knowledge and experience, hence my original comments. Having reviewed my first post, I can understand your interpetation and dismissal of it for the reasons stated. I agree. Realising this, I moderated my next message. However, I noticed you didn't quote that follow up post:

"Just spotted a thread on the Other Cities board that Tanya Tate will be available in London later this month. It's a rare chance to see her since she's now LA-based and isn't available in the US."

That's all I was ever trying to do - highlight information already out there about a porn star's rare availability. That's hardly the same as someone constantly shilling.

And no, I don't feel it's my job to promote Miss Tate here. I posted the information because this board used to be the place for intel on porn stars. If I had spotted any of the other PSs I've seen posting information, I'd also have written about it.

Anyway, since our interpretations on this issue will never be the same, and I don't intend to waste any more time on it, I shall now bow out and leave you to lord it over your petty little domain.

Consider:

- provider has fake hobbyist account
- provider uses fake hobbyist account to "promote" her- point out her ads, shill for her, and so on.

That is why we have the rules we have, in part. This has happened in the past, and will inevitably happen again.

I am not going to play detective and go "who's the hobbyist just trying to help with information and isn't trying to shill, and I will just completely ignore TER guidelines because I know he's an OK guy, who is the shill using a fake account", because inevitably I will screw this up. I'm going to simply apply the rules as I see them- don't start threads which advertise a provider's availability (replying to questions about a provider is EXPLICITLY OK- it is NOT a shill). And if a provider/booker/agency has the ability to post elsewhere, or posts here regularly, you're not "helping" to do their work for them and promoting their appearances/ads. They get one ad a week. Let THEM decide how to use it.
