Public admissions about escorting

I think people need to remember that in the United States, except for one county in Nevada (which Las Vegas is NOT located in), escorting for sex is ILLEGAL.
In the United States,  technically an escort is just paying for someone to spend time with you.  Of course, that is fine and legal in the United States. And whatever happens between consenting adults is fine as long as the intended objective of spending time together was not for the goal of sexual relations.
But,
9 times out of 10 if someone asks a porn performer if s/he escorts, the usual implied meaning is for sex. I don't see regular Joe Schmoe asking Chanel Preston if he can pay her to spend time with him so they can play Yahtzee. So no porn performer in a publicly accessible forum is going to state, "YES I AM COMMITTING A CRIME!"

Based on your comments above, I'd expect you to be shocked by the number of porn stars who openly mention that they escort on public media sites like Facebook and Twitter...   I've even found agencies and "regular" escorts posting about availability on those sites.

In reality, while "escorting" is synonymous with "prostitution", it's a lot harder than you might think to catch and prosecute someone.  And many of the agencies and escorts assume (in some cases possibly rightly so) that they are not worth going after, that police have better things to do with their time to go after them.  It's also not economically feasible - it takes many hours of police work, by multiple police personnel (at a cost of thousands of dollars) to arrest someone who, in all likelihood, will get off with a small fine ($200 or less).  It's just not worth the time and effort to spend thousands of dollars to get a couple of hundred in fines.

Often, the only time the police go after someone is (a) when it would be a high profile bust; (b) when they expect to shut down a "sex trafficking ring"; (c) when drugs are involved and they think they can shut down a dealer; or (d) when someone complains.

So in conclusion, is "escorting" illegal?  Yes.  Do people talk about it openly?  Yes.  Is it likely that anything bad will happen from talking about it openly?  Probably not.

mrfrench is right that the local police have one agenda, but the Feds have another. The big busts in NYC (A Greek goddess' companions and a consortium of AMPs) was all Federal for money laundering, tax evasion and related money charges. If they want to nail your hostess for not paying taxes on your $2000 donation, the IRS will send her a bill in the mail.
