I look at Classic porn more as movies that were pornographic, so there were fewer enhancements and 'typical' men.

What has always amazed me is how certain guys seem to get an "in" with the business, even though they aren't great performers.  In the 70's, it was Richard Bolla...talk about your everyday schmuck!  In the 80's, it was Randy West.  The guy was fuckin' everywhere...but he was so uninspiring, and thought he was so fucking cool and macho.  Gross! I remember how awesome it was seeing him taken down a notch by Lauren Hall in "The Tease".

By theway, the most recent example of this is Steven St. Croix and his mutant curved dick.  Yuk!

I think there are a bunch of things going on here, but ultimately, the increase in the number of huge dicks is a result of the porn industry having access to a deeper pool of job applicants.

There were probably three major changes from the era of classic porn that increased the potential pool of job applicants and the number of huge dicks for hire.

1. Change from scripted films to videos of just sex.  Classic porn required more acting skills.  I heard that many of the guys appearing in 70's porn were actors that were unable to break into mainstream work.  The current straight to sex videos don't require the guy to say anything.  

2. The decrease in the uncertainty about whether fucking a woman on camera was doing a job or committing a misdemeanor.

3. The decrease in the difficulty of getting access to information about how a guy can get into porn and the exponential growth of ways into the industry.  

The original male porn stars were all hippies and out-of-work actors who liked to fuck and none of whom had probably ever seen the inside of a gym.  Nowadays guys actually dream of being porn stars, especially if they've got big dicks.

Check out a book called "The Other Hollywood" -- it's composed of interviews, arranged by decade, of people in the porn industry.  The 1960s section is especially interesting.

for me the relatability of the scene and the people in it. What I like about the 70's/early-80's porn was that the ladies looked much more like someone you might live next door to, or see at work, or at the mall. Admittedly the movie did give them a chance to have their personality come through a bit, as opposed to a lot of over-produced stuff today (or the other end where no personality comes through because it is just a sex scene; no context).

I like to see the interaction in porn, but seeing guys with huge dicks get's in the way. Not to mention all the body ink on guys and lack of a half decent personality; they treat the girls as objects and recepticles. You could have a beer and share story with 70's porn guys. Guys today come off to into themselves.
(Generalizations of course, and I am sure there are exceptions, but I have found myself enjoying the older movies much more lately and trying to put my finger on what is appealing about it even with the cheesy music and, often, full bush.)
