I'm curious how Playboy handles any of their current playmates providing.
I've known some girls get kicked out of 'club playboy' for having done nude modeling before and theres plenty of stories of PB excommunicating playmates that go into porn.
I think that like Vivid and Wicked Pictures, Playboy has a don't ask, don't tell attitude. As long as the girl isn't blatantly out there hawking her availability my guess is they ignore the rumors.
Listen, Vivid, Wicked and Playboy are all companies in financial binds. DVD sales have crashed and burned, Penthouse magazine went bankrupt a few years ago and was purchased by someone else, and Playboy's circulation is nowhere near what it once was, and the amount of advertising reflects that. I don't know how old you are, but 15 years ago the Dec. and Jan. issues were well over 300 pages thick. The Feb. issue was traditonally the smallest, but today I don't think any issue even reaches the page number the old Feb. issues did.
Plus, up until a few years ago Playboy had a decided anit-porn view. The had no pictorials of pornstars and as you said, booted out any model who did porn.
But now Playboy owns one of the porn channels (The spice channel, I think) and they own Club Jenna, formerly Jenna Jamesons porn empire.
So my guess is they've somewhat softened their views on Playmates escorting/
Their financials have been terrible, the stock price has tumbled.
Interestingly aswell as owning the channels, they also own the adult.com network, makers of sites like bigsausagepizza. These properties have never been accepted into the playboy fold, no free advertising, nothing. They exist as independant bodies. Apparently there's some kind of rift within PB Inc over the direction of the company.
I think there's a major difference between Playboy Inc's views and Hef/Christie's.
Playboy's Board Of Directors have been trying to figure out a way to get rid of Hef for years now from what some have told me.
Not really. Hef has little to no connection to the actual running of the Playboy Corp. but he is a MAJOR stockholder. The real question is whether Christie can survive.
Aside from the shrinking circulation and ad revenue from the mag.; declining subscriptions to the Playboy Channel ( which except for porn movies ) hasn't had any new content in months; the Playboy brand has lost its cachet. It's not
"cool" anymore. Not like it was in the late 90's
up to around '05.
Many observers think the whole corporation has gone stale. Hef is too old and Christie is too set in her ways to bring about needed changes.

Terrific answer, Ed. I agree, it is all about the money right now. With the internet being able to fulfill every man's fantasy and fetish at relative small or no cost, the days of the brown wrapped magazine are nearly dead. Newspapers are going online and magazines are thinning out and disappearing. The "don't ask, don't tell" policy applies to the skin trade now more than ever.
Remember the mandated days of playmates with no tattoos, no piercing, at least some pubic hair, girl-next-door look? Those are gone. It is all about the dough, wherever it can be found.
Playboy has ALWAYS been hypocritical when it comes to sex, themselves, and the "activities" of their Playmates. Hell, I love Hef, but does anyone think that his "girlfriends" would stay with him (and in many cases, have 'real' boyfriends on the side) if he wasn't who he is?

I'm not mad at him at all, but it seems that Hef wants to keep a tight rein on his "product," because why else was Teri Weigel persona nongrata after she went into porn? She took control of herself. And I read somewhere that Playboy and Hef had to be damn near FORCED to help out Rebekka Armstrong, the Playmate who is HIV+, because her meds were so much she couldn't afford them and was losing everything at the time.
Playboy (the company) has come to the realization that hardcore is the future. That's the only reason that they are making any kind of money now. That's why The Playboy Channel shows ALOT more hardcore sex (That, and competition from "Hustler TV") than it used to. The Palms Casino really helped them out by using the "Playboy name" (which Playboy now licenses out) to promote "The Playboy Club" in Vegas.
I wouldn't be at all surprised that after Hef dies, his daughter Christie (would actually runs Playboy, BTW) will have some Playmates do actual hardcore sex scenes to boost revenue. It's the final step, because they're already in porn as it is. They just don't promote it like that. It would be interesting to see what The WWE would do with their "Diva Search" (especially after their recent "situation") if that ever happened.

As for Playboy and escorting; I got it straight from a former Playmate- They KNOW Playmates escort. On the one hand, they have "the girl next door" tradition and image and on the other is economic reality for many Playmates. Playboy still pays top dollar to centerfolds BUT the modeling and personal appearance opps are fewer than in past years and PAY LESS in real inflation
adjusted dollars than ten years ago.What they don't want is former Playmates advertising. So long as they stay utr and don't get caught; it's tolerated and the Playmate is still part of the
"Playboy Family".
The glaring hypocrisy afaic is two-fold. First is Hef's "girlfriends" who are PAID to be his gal-pals and secondly is the Playmates who are, ahem,
encouraged to be "friendly" with certain FOH and FOP's. That's "Friends of Hef" and "Friends of
Playboy" for the folks in Buzzard's Breath, South
Dakota.
As for Playmates doing porn, the only one I know of is Teri Weigel.

It's a riot, the majority of the participants seem to take that 'girl next door' thing very seriously: like they have framed centerfolds on their fireplace mantles. Whenever the suggestion comes up, they go nuts, and talk as though there's not the slightest chance that any Pb model provides. Most posts to the contrary, are soon deleted by the mods.

There is (or was) an interesting yahoo group called "Rogue Playmates" that discussed any of the Playmates that went on to do "harder" content, from simply "showing pink" to softcore g/g to full blown hardcore b/g porn.

You've obliquely hit on one reason Playboy and Hef
get the "heebie-jeebies" re: Playmate escorting. Part of it goes back to Hef's experiences with a former asst. of his named Bobbi Arnstein who was literally hounded by the FBI & DEA into killing herself back in the 70's. She was nailed for possession and they put the heat on her to roll over on Hef who at the time was definitely addicted to speed and was experimenting with other recreational substances.Ever since, Hef has been paranoid about the Government being out to get him. He doesn't want ANY connection, no matter how remote or oblique between Playboy and prostitution. None. Zero. Zip. Nada.
Couple that with the fact that Playboy has gone mainstream and is now a middle class institution
and it's not hard to see why Playboy wants to maintain the GND image.
Interestingly, two of Hef's former "girlfriends" the Bently twins, both escorted and were involved in a scandal involving a Financial Advisor who embezzled funds from his clients to fuel the twin's extravagent lifestyles.
