i'm not sure if everyone on this board has heard, but there is some promise to an AIDS vaccine which is being developed in Thailand. Initial research has shown that it is effective. if this product does get developed and a AIDS vaccine is indeed brought to market, i wonder how this could change this hobby? i would suppose this would be an instant stimulus that would bring more well known providers to the hobby because the main reason most do not participate is due to this risk
I don't know, that still leaves herpes out there. Sure it won't kill you, but it must be annoying as shit. I know I wouldn't want to have herpes. I doubt anyone would want it.
The vaccine is a combination of two failed vaccines that together work on a limited basis. It was only tested on one strand of HIV and it only protected against 30% of cases. So even though this is good news as it will help prevent some cases of AIDS, it is no where near the effectiveness it needs to be to curb the global epidemic and significantly reduce the risk of AIDS.
I agree that not much will change...But if they ever did come up with a miracle drug, that drug would probably knock off Lipitor as the #1 selling drug in the world....
As to the person that mentioned herpes, well, you could give that exact same lecture to male stars in the business, whose lifestlye is riskier than mine....My views remain firm....
I doubt just curing 1 disease such as aids that is much less thought about today than it was years ago. Im still waiting for a miracle drug that cures everything. Honestly im scared shitless of syphilis more than anything. Aids would just dwindle me away physically if syphilis goes unchecked ur brain goes. Given youll probably catch it since it has fairly obvious signs and some antibiotics can take care of it. But thats my biggest fear.
Herpes well i've never had an outbreak or a positive test for any kind of HPV. I really don't understand how they say something like 75% of Americans have it, because if that were true I gotta figure id have it. That one confuses me, but herpes def scares me a lot more than aids, just because it can be passed on from mere skin to skin touching.
Not only can herpes be passed from skin-to-skin contact, but condoms don't really protect you from it. That's because even with condoms, the skin of your crotch and/or testicles can still touch an infected woman's skin in the crotch area and contract herpes from that contact.
To make it even worse, research has shown that you can contract herpes from a sex partner even when that person is not suffering from an outbreak. The risk is low but it's there.
I've never seen herpes as a problem though. I don't have it. I don't want it. But, the risk of getting it is so low that I'm not worried about it, as long as I take some precautions such as not having contact with someone currently suffering with an outbreak.
