I've been reading the various deposit discussions over the last week, so I thought I'd add my two cents.

It's easy to say "Never give a deposit", but with that philosophy there will be a number of very highly reviewed PSEs who'll you'll never get to see.

The way I see it, you need to do a little due diligence when a girl asks for a deposit.  That's what this board is about.  Post a question asking if anyone has ever had a problem with a particular PSE when it came to getting a deposit back for a no-show or cancelled appointment.  Had Rays of Light done that he would have gotten a response from js63, who would have warned him about his experience.

If you don't want to give deposits but want to see a particular girl, book her through an agency and you won't have a problem.  But since you pay a premium of about 40% to book through agencies, the occasional lost deposit is a small price to pay to book a girl directly.

Like any business, there are good business people and bad business people.  No offense to those pornstars who have a handle on their affairs, but many PSEs have trouble managing all aspects of their lives, so it's not suprising that some can't manage their money.

I have an upcoming story on my blog about a pornstar I know who came to Philly, had 8 or 10 appointments, and at the end of her tour didn't have enough money for a plane ticket to return home.

No-shows and lost deposits are just the nature of the game, and if you play enough, eventually you're going to get burned.  By all means, when it happens post a message about it to let other hobbyists know, but realize that eventually it IS going to happen.  

One more thing.  Just food for thought, but EVERY PSE I know who doesn't require deposits has told me time and time again about appointments they've made where the guy no-calls and no-shows.  I'm sorry to say that my home base here in Philly is notorious for it and is why many PSEs won't come here any longer.  Believe me, they've lost a lot more money in missed booking oportunities than hobbyists who have lost deposits, so I don't blame a lady who chooses to ask for a deposit.

This whole deposit scandal is something else. I remember the days when you could go to silver lake and have fun with a current PS without a deposit and for fewer than 5 bills. But that was then and this is now. I have given only one deposit and that was with Summer Sin years back, at that time I had no other PS references so I had to deal with it. But I asked around and she was reliable, used a booker to handle the transaction and everything went smoothly. It was only after she used Pam to book her LA gigs that it went to shit. Pam Peaks was not the most pleasant with me on the phone, insisting that I provide work info. Even though I had seen Summer a few times, oh well.  

But my point is now I use references to schedule, I encourage them to check me with at least two sources and that so far has worked. I explain that my play time is precious to me and unless I am in the ER I will be there, it’s you I am worried about.  But I am seeing more and more requests for deposits, the flake factor works on both sides as we have seen on this board. If you are going to be portray yourself as a professional requesting a deposit then return it when you need to. I know the argument that many women in this business lack these basic skills and would not make in the real world, no argument there. But there are some exceptions to the rule, you just need to research and yes that means you will need to start before the week she hits your city. How many times has your sidekick lead you into trouble by allowing him to lead? Do your homework beyond the reviews. If you provide the deposit within 24 hrs of the request then I will hold the girl to refunding me the deposit within that same time frame, given normal banking hours.

Ok now that I have said that, what about a section called the flake report? And yes maybe it can be both ways. Of course there will be accusations on both sides that may not hold water and mob mentality will take effect from time to time but that goes on now. At least someone like Kate Frost would see her name up there as a potential problem and those of us that are less inclined to research would have a more focused database to search. I for one would have scheduled a multi hr with Kate, such a stunner.

Cannot manage her money bottom line..If she has 8 appointments at let's say $4,000 ($500/hr)total than she has no business not having any money to get a flight ticket home..

Look I understand that porn star escorts are not MBA graduates but why don't these girls buy RETURN flight tickets BEFORE they come to a city..

I heard the same reason for girls not going to Vegas.

The guys set up appointments but lose all their money at the tables. They have no money left over for the appointment. No calls & no shows.

Like the amount that a porn star (or any escort) chooses to charge, a deposit is part of her business practices.  I can accept that.  I can choose to do business with her or not.  I choose not to do business with women who ask for a deposit.  As I've said before, if that means I don't get to see certain ladies, well, I'll live.

I've been in this hobby for about 30 years now.  I don't know how many women I've seen but it's definitely in the high hundreds.  I've been a "no show" twice - both times were because of the weather, and both times I contacted the lady to learn her know I wasn't coming and why *hours* in advance.  Neither of those times were with a porn star.

I think I have a good reputation with most of the porn stars I've seen.   And, I've used many of them as references.  If the pornstars who ask for deposits aren't happy with my reputation, the references of the pornstars, and the rest of it, and still require a deposit, well, then I just move on to the next hottie.

The bottom line is, if someone wants to ask for a deposit, that's fine.  I don't have to do business with them.  However, anyone who asks for a deposit, and then doesn't show up, OWES THE MONEY AND SHOULD PAY UP WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME!!!!

Just my 2 cents, but I agree with mrfrench.  I will not see a Provider who requires a deposit.  If I miss out on seeing certain PS, I'll live with it.  Unfortunately, it's the nature of the hobby, but not all of the providers are the most reliable.   Also, doing your homework works both ways.  Frequently, the providers ask for your TER handle.  Providers should also do their home work and see which hobbyist have a history of submissions and white listed.

I took eddie'spost as implying the PSE in Philly didn't have air fare because of no call no shows, not because she extravagantly mismanaged her money.

I can see both sides here but I see deposits as the cost of doing business with certain ladies; if they have a good rep and are high on the to-do list - no problem. But I don't know how likely I'd be to go that route if I didn't have good info from ter or someone who had seen her. Plenty of fish in the ocean, after all.

Spent a few years there, so I am not surprised.

Had a friend in the biz who called me for a ride to the airport (going home). As she was about to close the hotel room door behind her (with luggage in tow), she abutly stopped and said, "om-gosh". She quickly went to the safe and grabbed a wad of cash....

Then at checkout the clerk said,"We owe you $102." (not sure how, but..), and she said, "Sorry, I have to go, can you mail it?"

I guess she is the only one who had the safe combo, but, what do you do if you get home? Call the hotel and say, "Can you go to Room #222 and......"

and i don't mean to be flippant. i'm just being straight-up honest. not seeing a highly-rated scorcher of a PSE is not the end of the world for me


i can even give you an investing analogue (for those of you who dabble in stocks):  "Margin of Safety"

I did my research.

She had all 10s.

I paid the deposit.

She played her games and did nothing!

I got burned!

I will never pay a deposit again!

Some of these Pornstars are taking advantage of their status.  Performing well for certain guys and playing games with the rest of us!  

Eddie, thanks for the post. I'm inclined NOT to give deposits, but I can see your point. As kenescalade mentioned, even if you do your homework there is a chance you you will get burned.

I see both sides of the story and each person needs to make up their own mind.  Personally I've have 2 occasions where I was ripped off after paying substantial deposits. One was from a known PS.  Shame too because it gives everyone a bad rap.

Is there a reason you're not referring to the "known PS" by name?  When you say its a shame because it gives everyone a bad rap, you do realize part of the reason why is because those who have lost deposits won't name the PSE who ripped them off.  "Everyone" wouldn't get a bad rap, if those who kept deposits that should have been returned,  were named instead of protected by those who have been wronged.
