Comcast was suppose to come out and hook up my TV and internet service on Friday. Sooo... Thursday afternoon at close to 5 o'clock, they call me to tell me that they cancelled the appointment because the last person who lived there has an unpaid balance, and so the need me to COME IN to their office (closest one being 35 miles from me) and bring my social security card, driver's license and a utility bill in my name with the address I'm living at.  I explain to them that I don't pay the utilities; that my room mate pays the utilites.  So they say bring that in.  I ask how that will prove that I live there and they say "Oh, I guess you're right... "

So now I'm looking into Verizon, but they don't have TV service in my area; they can give me internet but not TV.  Sheesh!

So I guess I'll only be on here occasionally for a little while longer...

They are nicer to new customers and install everything for free.

They charge too much for a bunch of bull shit movies we have seen on regular TV. They keep playing them over, over , over.

I've had Direct TV for 5 years and really like it, mostly because of the Sunday Ticket.  Plus over the past few years when I've called them about adjusting my service they've always reduced fees and added features for free to keep me as a customer.  And they have a nice line-up of adult channels with the ability to search movies by actress' names, so if I'm on an Audrey Bitoni kick I can find & auto record her movies.

Gee, after reading this I hope I don't get moderated for a schill post.

Direct TV doesn't solve the internet program, and I'd end up with two bills; one from DirecTV and one from Verizon.

Actually right now Dish TV has the best deal... 200 channels, 65 of the in HD, a free HD DVR and Free HBO & Showtime for 3 months for 32.99 plus five bucks more for local channels.  When you add the monthly charge for the DVR it comes out to about 45 bucks.  Free installation.

The thing I like about Comcast is even though they're a little bit more and you pay for installation, there's no contract, and the weather doesn't effect Comcast as much as it does the satellite networks. Plus Comcast has a HUGE amount of On-Demand programs.

Comcast sucks. I had them and nothing but problems. They would even charge for a service call when it was their equipment that was the problem. They make you buy "insurance" against paying for service calls when their stuff is the cause of the problem. Luckily my current location has Time Warner and though I know that there are those who do not like TW, I have had good luck with them for the last few years that I have used their service.

Have you checked into AT&T? My neighbor has them and he likes them alot. They provide cable TV, internet, and digital phone in a bundle if that is your choice. Or you can get the individual services.

ATT's got a bundled deal with phone, internet and DirecTV. I've had Directv for three years and love it. Their customer service sets them apart from everyone else. Anytime I've had a problem, they've been out here the next day!. A friend of mine had problems with her Dish Network and they scheduled her service for a week later!!!!!

That is right, ATT and DirectTv are working together now and you get both on one bill.

You might want to call a lawyer and ask for advice.  It might be illegal of them to refuse you service because of some previous tenant's unpaid bill.  Or, if your state has a Board of Utilities, you can contact them.  Also, you can call your city hall.  I don't know how it is where you live but out here in NJ, the cable companies had to arrange contracts with each city in order to lay their wires, and the contracts may require them to provide service.

Your friend's utility bill might get Comcast off your case.

It seem to me that all you need to do is prove to Comcast that the person occupying your place is not the person with the unpaid balance owed to Comcast.

If your friend is renting your new place, Comcast should already be aware of that fact and deduce that the person that owes them money has moved.

Have you checked into AT&T uverse?  They're running specials and I've heard rave comments about their TV and internet service.
