We don't want to preclude using the search function, posting ISO's or most importantly, run the risk of leaving someone out or posting inaccurate info. Kevinroby undertook a monumental task in doing what he did and should be applauded, but the logistics of recreating and maintaining an accurate PS directory would be staggering. In order to be fair, up to date and factual, I think the "old school" system of searching and asking should be kept in place.  I try to answer every post where I have specific knowledge and enlist help from others when I do not.
