Measure B

It's seems amazing, a month left to an election - and basically no real thoughtful media debate.

Face it, this Measure WILL pass and pass OVERWHELMINGLY because the average voter is going to go in the ballot box and see a measure that would require condoms and say to themselves, 'seems ok to me' and vote for them.   They are going to pass, it's a done deal.

What will it mean??  To the porn industry - it's another barrier and barriers would seem to drive business elsewhere from California/LA.  To the porn star escort scene, hard to say, a barrier for porn stars to be/work in LA would seem to inhibit supply, or move porn star / biz to Vegas perhaps.  Maybe this will be good for the higher end non PS escorts in LA if the law makes it more difficult for porn stars to film or escort, but who knows.   Drive the business underground?  ugh, like that would make life better for society and porn stars - what will be the unintended consequences of these laws passing.

then again, maybe it will be tied up in courts - but once a law passes no question the legal system will test their enforcement power from health departments to police to the DA, and some girls are going to be test cases and some porn studios as well.

edited, shouldn't have lumped both in together.  Prop 35 unique

While this issue is important for the adult film industry and its consumers, mostly simply don't care about it...In a presidential election year, and w/many close races that will determine control of the US senate, most people do not care about Measure B..(On a side note, Romney would be tough on the porn industry, simply because he would CAVE to the social conservatives)..

IMO, for the porn industry it will likely mean moving production to Las Vegas, Miami, etc...Many of the production companies will leave and all that will be left in LA will be the Huslter Hollywood Store on Sunset Blvd..

As far as escort scene, it would not change a thing for me personally...I've said many times the appts i book, and Measure B is not going to have any impact on that...I'll continue to do the same thing I've done for many years now, get my test, book the appt....

This is going to be one big mess for the industry and the county while Weinstein laughs all the way to the bank.

Supervisor Zev had always stated that condom enforcement was a CALOSHA/ State matter and the county should not get involved.  So Weinstein goes to the LA City Council and threatens them with a special election if they don't pass this ordinance. Being that the LA City Council is pretty much just a paper stamping operation now, they pass it. The council wanted to show its force on the porn industry so the pro marijuana people wouldn't start their own signature collection drive to reopen dispensaries, but look at what happen, they are going to have reverse themselves or have a special election.
So, by getting this done on the city level, Weinstein moved over to the county to push this thought.  Supervisor Zev was considering running for LA mayor. I am pretty sure, Weinstein force Zev's hand for putting this on the ballot or he would work against Zev in the mayoral race.   Zev is no longer planning to run for mayor but we are stuck with this measure.

So, if it does passes, what happens.  First off, this is a county measure but it is not enforceable everywhere in the county.  The measure only has jurisdiction over the UNINCORPORATED cities of LA County, this would be areas like Acton, East LA, and so forth.   The measure would not apply in incorporated cities like  Pasadena, Glendale, Malibu, Santa Monica and so on.  All these cities will have to have a vote or measure, just like what the City of LA did and make their own rule about this.
The next question would be who in the county will be enforcing this measure?  Will County Public health be doing it or will the county have to create a new department?   Do they even have the funds to support this because the county is on a hard freeze for jobs.  What type of oversight or professionalism will there be, having a county employee watching people have sex? (I  so want to see the job description for this position.)

I support the intentions of this measure but this measure is so flawed.
This issue should be handled by people in the industry and not politicians and a private businessman with alternative motives.

Many don't realize that sex on camera is illegal in 99% of states, including Las Vegas.

The L.A. City Council is corrupt. That's why marijuana shops flourish here. One should never over-estimate the L.A. voters either. Most who can read english don't bother to vote.
