This post is in response to Carl and RLTW's challenge below.  However I would like responses from everyone on this topic since it really is a debate to be had.  To me the religious lunatic right of this country and Israel is just as dangerous as al-qaida and here is why.....  

  Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, Fallwell and the rest of the desciples were happy as can be before the Iraq war!!  And if you bothered watching any of them you would know why.  Prophecy was being fulfilled by the Iraq war thats why!!  But not just mere prophecy, oh no!!  The Iraq war fulfilled the prophecy of ancient Babylon being destroyed for the 3rd and final time which meant the greatest and last prophecy is just around the corner.  

  And WTF do you say that is??  Nuclear fucking WW3.  Benny Hinn would have the biggest grin on his face and proclaim that the greatest move by god will occur in the next few years.  They were all proclaiming the greatest battle in history will begin shortly after the defeat of ancient Babylon(aka Iraq) for the 3rd time.  

  These are the same people pushing for the Israelis to cleanse the Palestinians out of the holy areas so the Temple mount can be destroyed and the 3rd temple be rebuilt.  And when the Temple Mount is destroyed, guess what boys and girls??  WW3 will start!!
Settlements and the defeat of a palestinian state is not mere policy, its Biblical.  And all these loonies are waiting for the Israeli fanatics to blow up the Temple Mount, which mind you will ignite a response in the Middle East and across the world that most certainly will lead to a global nuclear war.  Thats when the nations will rise up against Israel and the armies of Russia and the world will gather against Israel for the final showdown.  
   
  But thats ok because thats when Jesus will show up!!  And these are the supporters of Bush and his foreign policy in the Middle East.  Bush may have called for a 2 state solution, but the evangelical wing wants nothing more that "great move of god" in their lifetime and that is exactly what they are waiting for. And that great move of god cannot come if the palestinians have a state.

  Forget the Bible.  Do any of you have a clue as to what will happen to global stability if an Israeli lunatic blows up the Temple Mount in this day and age??  I would love to hear an answer to just this one question.  Because keep in mind thats exactly what some of these fringe lunatics are trying to do!!

If\when he were to return, what does it mean in various  religious circles? To be more clear, what is supposed to happen then?

For the righteous, the plan is to conform to His plan. In modern fundamentalism, God's plan is the apocolypse.  

I disagree slightly that they are actively working to bring it about, but by their own dogma, if they do anything, they can't work for anything else.  Their only plan for humankind is the apocolypse.  

The implications are, Bush's fuck-ups, especially in the middle east, don't phase them.  The worst things get, the more ecstatic they are, because those are signs that God is getting ready for the end of time.

I wonder what they will do when the world collapses into chaos and the rapture doesn't occur, but I think we got a good sample of their reaction with Bush's 7 minute freeze up on the morning of 9/11.

  The reason these right wing fucks in Israel and here at home are ecstatic is precisely the reason you stated.  Ancient Babylon has been destroyed for the 3rd time and now its time for big one.  
  However, just as Babylon had to be destroyed so do the palestinian people and the Temple Mount.  And when one of these fucks blows up the Temple Mount one thing is for sure--the world will descend into chaos leading to a nuclear holocaust.  And if Jesus doesn't open up the skies and save the "worthy ones" it surely will be the biggest "oops, my bad" in the history of this world!!  
  If anyone blows up the Temple Mount in the Middle East, the horror that will follow will affect every single man, woman, and child everywhere on the face of this earth.  The sick part is that most of these nuts want this to happen so they can prove to the world they were right.  And if they are wrong we are all fucked regardless, because that is the one event from which there is no return!!
