It says they were fired for thier "myopic zeal".
I wonder why nobody from FAUX has ever been fired for their "myopic zeal"? Could it be the Rupert Murdock WANTS them to have "myopic zeal"?

until then, you're just blowing smoke...
Except for one problem. CBS did NOT falsify or forge any documents.
thus breaking a Journalism 101 rule.
Snowman, with all due respect, "Some say" is used by Fox broadcasters to do just that... blow smoke in our faces to hide the blatant subjectiveness of their "reporting". Whenever a Fox talking head uses the phrase "some say"... it usually means "Mr. Murdoch says". The snide remarks and snickering comments about John Kerry that were so prevalent on Fox were an insult to my intelligence. (Truth be told, I think just as little of Al Franken as I do Bill O'Reilley or Rush Limbaugh. But Franken is far less of a hypocrite than either of those two pompous windbags.)
Its been an astonishing time for journalism across the board. The NYTimes and their Jayson Blair scandals, and CBS screwed up badly with Rathergate. The House that Walter Cronkite Built, may very soon come crashing down in a pile of dust because of the onslaught by the Conservative power base and the self-immolation of CBS News itself. Personally, I think its just the first salvo of the Fifth Column against the Fourth Estate. (come on, give me credit here! That one sounded good, right or wrong!)
But seriously, do you really think this is a good thing?
It's already bad enough most people in this country think Homer Simpson & Jessica Simpson are both REAL people!
What's next? Armstrong Williams as role model?
Rupert Murdoch as final arbiter and sole provider of information? ((((( shudder )))))
I agree that these have been sad times for the media and makes one wonder where they can get trusted news from?
On the other hand...
I (and many of my political persuasion) would argue that this stuff has been going on for YEARS leaning to the left, but never really noticed or questioned. Now that competition has really entered the market, it has brought this to the surface. I know people like to blasts FOX on this board, but at least by taking the opposite side from the major networks and CNN, we finally have some balance in the overall media. I guess the thing that IRKS me is CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS all tend to lean to the left, and no one wants to bitch about that, but if FOX leans to the right, all hell seems to break loose. That's just a little too two-faced for me.
Oh yeah, the smearing of liberals by the red baiters/McCarthyites was all true. Being an early anti fascist meant you were clearly a tool of the Soviets. Being anti Franco must have meant you carried a card...
Oh and realizing that the VietNam War was BS clearly meant you were paid by Uncle Ho...
The orgs you names DO NOT lean toward the left. People in them do. But the orgs themsleves are pretty centrist. Annoyingly so in many cases.
Fox on the other hand does not lean- it has totally toppled over into being a GOP organ, in the Pravda Tass model.
Methinks you have a problem with the educated. But knowing about world history does tend to make one leary of the present GOP's total lack of understading of world events and their implcations.
Hell, in the 50's the DNC looked like the Republican Party. Remember, JFK said the best way to stimulate the economy was to cut taxes, when was the last time you heard a democrat say something like that. The problem is that over the last 50 years the DNC has morphed from the party of the working man to the party of the man who doesn't want to work.
And if you think these orgs do not lean left, then you have your head in the sand. If the great majority of people who work there are liberal, it's going to bleed through into the work. Just ask Dan Rather. The fact that you can make that statement considering what just happened at CBS shows your lack of honesty (I'm not sure if it is with the board or just yourself). Need another example? Look back at the 2000 race and how quickly the networks were calling states for Gore while waiting longer to call the for Bush under the same circumstances. The list goes on, wake up and smell the coffee...
It's all relevent - that's why history is so important. The people who run the GOP now bought the Reagan BS that was a reaction to the feelings of weakness brought about by the '70 "malaise".
You lean right. THERE IS NO REAL LEFT IN THE USA! Who in the DNC is advocating massive redistribution of wealth? Who is talknig about real national health? Who is discussing real disarmanment? Who is advocating free education K-Graduate School? Who is for nationalising major businesses? Nobody! Even the "Left" is in the center. It is you who are on the slippery slope to Fascism- deal with it - and limber up your right arm for that salute we can feel you longing to give for all to see....
You may want to fight against something, so you can fool youself into thinkng you have a vast consipiracy of commies in the news orgs, but the facts remain that there is only a center left and many grades of rightists here. And as such it is hard for us in the center to think of you as anything but a sore winner advocate.
It is becoming clear to me that what you mistrust is education. Cuz the majority of folks who can rub a degree together can see what a mess we are in brought to us by the GOP. News orgs are awash in degreed personnel, and they know history and wonder how a admin that has failed on so many levels can still get any support let alone elected. So the reticence to call states for Bush was actually saddened disbelief. Even REAL CONSERVATIVES find this situation amazing. Only Business First and Religion First "conservatives" think this is a good thing. and the non-readers they can bamboozle USING THEIR MANY NEWS OULETS...
HL Mencken got it right- Never overestimate the intelligence of the American people
And Faulkner was right when he was assigned to raise the profile of Americans overseas and immediately called for all Passports to be revoked!
incrementalism.... look it up.
The DNC pushes and believes in the all powerful state. Take away from those who have and let the government decide who is worthy of the gifts they have seized from others. Many facist states have gone into effect though these incremantal steps you are advocating. The problem is you are not cognizant enough to recognize the dangers of this.
Gee, an all powerful government, ideas also promoted by Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini. Nice company you keep there.
You comments about my feeling regarding education are really just stupid since I have an advanced degree. I don't know where you came up with that??
You quote Mencken, and thus doing so explain why you guys can't win an election. You assume you can't win because everybody is SO STUPID and you are SO ENLIGHTENED. What arrogance!!
Dude- I am an AMERICAN- I never overestimate my own intelligence either! The most important part.
All I know is I consistantly know more than you. I mean, did you go to OU? I feel like Matt Leinert here! A real scholar, I can't usually hang with.
With good checks and balances it is possible to have a strong central state with lots of services AND a thriving capitalist economy. Europe is getting there- and the avarage western Euro Butcher or Mechanic knows more about the world than you would if you stopped working for a year and boned up instead of whatever you do now! I have seen it. But they have far to go to perfection- we just have farther!
All I know is I consistantly know more than you....SULLY
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Good one, but you should put a smiley face in front of posts that contain humor. Unfortunately the only thing you have shown on this board is that you have NO UNDERSTANDING of history or human nature...
It is the profit motive that made this country great. Making a dollar is not evil and it is no ones business how much money a person makes. The left's constant push to penalize the successful only guarnatees their departure and assures we will slip in world status as our brightest and best move to other countries where they are more free to keep the fruits of their labor.
COME ON!!! This is Economics 101!!! Didn't you at least get that far in school?
Thus endeth the lesson...
Actually I spent a long time involved with Economists and economics education. Making each generation make its own way with wealth is the best way. Making apile and then letting your kids spend it pretty much discredited.
Unfettered profit motive tried in early industrial rev and leads to counter productive concentration of wealth in too few hands. They almost always then raise barriers to entry into their "class" that are destructive to society (See Feudalism). Better to make playing field more level give more people chance to make a living.
Also the wealthy get so many more benefits from stable society that it only fair to make them pick up more of the tab.
Individuals have the right to unionize if they so wish to fight what they beieve to be unfair labor practices We also have anti-monopoly laws to address the barriers to entry.
You are trying to apply the early industrial age to our modern work environment with all of its rules and regulations. Therefore you points are totally invalid...
BTW, the last time I checked we ALL benefit from a stable society, not just the rich.
for trying to sway the election by presenting their biased political hatchet job as "news".
They would have been fine if they had included the standard political disclaimer.
