I happen to be involved in the election process so I get to see more than the average voter. Only a Democrat thinks that asking a voter to show a valid ID that has a picture is intimidation. I think that most americans want their vote to count but how much will it count when you allow people to vote multiple times without serious consequence? Most states do not make this a serious crime, but it should be. You really have to piss someone off to get prosecuted. Letting people vote anywhere in a county which Ohio just tried to do, (a battleground state) makes enforcement of voter id impossible. Luckily its been overturned. Yes you have a right to vote, but lets also remember you have some responsibilties. Be registered, show up at the proper polling site or get an absentee ballot. Not that difficult really As for voter fraud I'd find it hard to believe that the actual parties Dem or Rep are involved they have to much to lose if caught. However both sides use surrogates for plausible denieability. Do you think that when the AFL/CIO runs a registation drive they don't rip up republican entries. Get real! Worse, the union gets to take part of your dues and spend them on a candidate you may not endorse, but you don't get to withold this money or your share of it. Also they dont offer a vote to their members as to who their going to endorse, its decided at an executive level. But I digress. Voter fraud I could easily list plenty of Dem abuses such as offering cigarettes and alcohol to the homeless to vote, lets not forget chicago(enough said there), The list could go on but I only type with 2 fingers so I'll stop now.
The Supreme Court barred them from doing that in 1988, CWA vs. Beck.
I don't think that when people complain about harassment at the polls that presentation of the picture ID is what they are talking about, with few exceptions.
Let me just point out that a lot of these troubles are caused by a lack of a good, believable, verifiable ID in the US. Yes, I think we need a federal ID card. May the mark of the beast be upon me!
The fact that you are more involved in the election process than most causes me to pause. You appear unworthy of such a task, but I guess it is your right if you want to do it. My take is that anyone tampering with the right to vote or manipulating the voting process should be investigated and jailed if they are found guilty of those actions. I do not give a shit whether they are Democrats or Republicans, or any other party.
You are correct about the Court ruling, but union dues are allowed to be used for things like voter registration and "get out" the vote campaigns. Now just whoose vote do you think they are "getting out"?
Direct party contributions through unions must be "voluntary". I know the score directly. In most places that means "voluteer" or you either don't work or you will be placed in the job location leaning towards the exit.
Most unions bury the Beck info and more than a few require you to resign from the union first. If you actually make a request you are likely to be harrased. As for the ID issue its a major sticking point here in NY. Wonder why you don't see new electronic voting machines here? The bill authorizing them has been held up for 4 years over this. The Two parties cant agree on what will constitute verifiable ID. Do you think a utility bill should be used as ID, most reasonable people dont. But that and other non picture IDs are being fought for by the down state Dems. Its not just here in NY that that issue is being fought.
In NY candidates and political parties may issue "Poll watcher" certificates and these people may challenge suspicious voters. They may not interfere with the board appointed poll workers, but they may request a challenge.
As for your statement here "The fact that you are more involved in the election process than most causes me to pause. You appear unworthy of such a task" I would repond..
A) You don't know me and have no factual basis for judgement of my suitability for my position, Ive actually been involved for several years and my work has never been questioned. In the past 2 election cycles we've had races decided by less than 5 votes and 20 votes. Both races were decided in court (instigated by the losing candidate) and my area of expertise (the voting machines) was never questioned. Only challenges we see are too the absentee votes. Not my area.
B) As for trying to impune my honor I have to remember that its a standard dem tactic "if you dont like the message slime the messenger"
Funny, where I live in the LA area, just down the street from where I live is a Teamster meeting hall. Needless to say there are huge banners draping the building supporting the two Johns. Get real.
They may be forbidden to donate directly to the canidate, but there are tons of ways around that - for how much the Democrats cry foul on the Swifties, union commercials are of the same ilk. It's hypocritical to oppose something that the party you support is doing in spades.
You have an irritating tendency to call eveyone that disagrees with you in a significant way a Democrat. You have no freaking idea of what a person's political affiliation is when you pull such a trick.
You are incorrect about Beck. Beck only requires unions to provide individuals with the opportunity to opt out of supporting union political activities. The requirements have been so watered-down in the interim that the notice that unions are supposed to provide appears in internal union propaganda sheets. And nothing in Beck prevents unions from endorsing candidates.
That having been said, unions spend an enormous portion of dues to lobby and support political candidates. Think about it. If you don't know that every union employee is a full-time campaign worker for Democrats between Labor and Election Days, then you simply aren't payint attention. Never mind what is spent on lobbying and other socialist causes the rest of the year.
Although you give unions too much credit. EVERY union buries Beck information, and EVERY union requires resignation from union membership to exercise the right (and indeed, is entitled to).
