because of COVID 19 is fully covered for hospitalization, ambulatory care, lab tests and prescription drugs with no yearly or lifetime caps. That’s about 8.5 million in the individual market and who knows how many in the group market.
12 days in the hospital because of COVID 19 is the average time. That cost $30,000-all covered.
Who isn’t covered? Well, that would be anyone who wanted “more choices” and bought a Trump junk insurance policy which is a hell of lot cheaper than an Obamacare policy bc it is not required to cover essential health benefits. That’s about 1.3 million.
But wait the new law will at least cover covid testing during the emergency period, right? Nope, not if you bought a Trump policy:
Coronavirus testing – The new law passed by Congress requires all group health plans and individual health insurance coverage to cover testing and associated visits related to the diagnosis of the COVID-19 during the emergency period.
This new law will not apply to some types of private coverage sold to individuals. For example, regulations issued by the Trump Administration in 2018 promote the sale of short-term policies that are not required to cover EHB.
• The Administration estimated an additional 1.3 million people would be enrolled in short-term policies in 2020 as a result of this regulation.
Another brilliant Trump initiative brought to you by the man who is “protecting those with pre-existing conditions” as he lied in his SOC speech.
But wait, Trump got the big health insurers to promise to cover covid treatment anyway, right?
No, he lied about that too. They will cover testing, not treatment.
But hey – damn that Obamacare – the roll out wasn’t smooth, you can’t keep your doctor, and it cost a lot more. For me, I want more choices - even if they are really bad ones.
