What is so hard for people to realize that they are better thinking of themselves as dead when a hostage then it is to try to plead?

For one, right now, I welcome death. I know I will be at peace and not have to deal with all the bs that seems to follow me everywhere in life.  Bring it the fuck on!

I do understand an aversion to pain. Got that in a big way. But death will be welcome.

IF YOU ARE TAKEN HOSTAGE - CONSIDER YOURSELF DEAD.  Does everybody else a huge favour and totally takes the power away from your captors! And besides, after that if you live, how great it will be!

I swear if that English lady was keeping her upper lip stiff- she might be free now!  But I DO hope that a team from Hereford is nearby waiting for the right moment...

Go down fighting to the end. Take the power of intimidation away from them and determine to take one of the sons of bitches with you. If you can't kill one, at least gouge an eyeball out or bite an ear off one of the goat-fuckers.

But it's not the hostage who are targets after they are captured.  If anything, it's it's friends and relatives that are targets.  You may consider yourself dead, and/or suicidal if captured.  But what if your daughter or wife were hostage?  Would you be willing to write off their lives right then?  What if you never know if they are dead or alive after that?  

Also, if you wrote them off and they weren't dead, what if they turncoated due to your betrayal?    

Hostage taking is effective because it effects people related to the hostages.  They are no longer free at that point.

When a person is taken hostage, THAT person must never give the terrorists a propaganda tool and an avenue to humiliate him or her.  Let terrorists mutilate a dead body that fought them valiantly.  Their actions before the cameras will only highlight the fact that they are blood thirsty beasts.  When a person chooses to stay alive and plead for their lives, it give terrorists a tool to use.
    I do not have children, but I do have sisters and brothers.  I know them and understand that each of them would fight to the death rather than be humiliated.
