Politics and Religion

You did miss the point, completely!! As seems to be the case with you.

If you read Poop's post properly, you will see that he takes all sides to task.  But he makes a distinction between someone showing up in a church to press their cause, but allowing parishioners to quietly reject that message if they want versus the case where parishioners private information is turned over to someone under the assumption that they will support a given candidate - the pressure level between the two situations is vastly different.

A few paragraphs from the following link. This is just typical behaviour of the "I'll do anything to get elected" attitude displayed by these assholes.

GOP asks Bush supporters to send in Catholic parish directories
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican National Committee has asked Bush-backing Roman Catholics to provide copies of their parish directories to help register Catholics to vote in the November election, a use of personal information not necessarily condoned by dioceses around the country.

In a story posted Thursday on its Web site, the National Catholic Reporter said a GOP official had urged people who attended a Catholic outreach event in January to provide parish directories and membership lists to the political party.

"Access to these directories is critical as it allows us to identify and contact those Catholics who are likely to be supportive of President Bush's compassionate conservative agenda," wrote Martin J. Gillespie, director of Catholic Outreach at the RNC. "Please forward any directories you are able to collect to my attention."

Can we have just one Sunday between now and November when we don't have to see Kerry and Edwards pimping in a Black Church?

This puts the Repubs. in a class that is matched only by telemarketing scum and the companies that gather the info to sell to them. In church I would not expect people to give my info to anyone, let alone someone that was trying to target me for a sales pitch.

I do not like anyone preaching political thoughts in church (do not forget the southern ministers are preaching of Bush & boys right along with Kerry & Edwards doing it themselves) but trying to get parishioners to hand over the church directory is definetly out of line.

the left should not complain about using churches since they seem to be the one's who perfected the art (ask Jesse Jackson).
The real irony here is they will use the church to get elected and then try to dump and reference to "God" anywhere they find it.

What hypocrise...

Hell. It's better to be privately contacted with the option of hanging up the phone than shouted at from the Pulpit about politics when you are in a hosue of God. The reason you are wrong is you make the assumption that Poopdeck's argument is correct, it is not...

Once again you try to twist an article that is posted into what you want it to say. And to change the meaning of what I wrote.

I said it is wrong for either of these methods, but I feel it is an even worse offense that a political party would try to get people in a church to hand over directories..

I believe it is worse to solicit WITHIN a house of God, then to phone over a private line. There is a reason it is called the BULLY PULPIT.

God gave some of us logic and decided to bypass others.  I know where I can get some extra logic if you need some to stop being idiotic.

Pressure from the pulpit can be very strong. Pastors have great influence over church members. It's easy to hang up the phone if you disagree with the message, or not answer with caller ID.

Going to black churches and preaching to the congregation that the Republicans are coming to burn down the church is pretty much standard fare every election cycle.

I don't agree with either approach, but to call out one side without condemning the other is hypocrisy.

And the fact that Falwell, Robertson and Buchannan spew their vitriolic sermons on a daily basis to their followers is OK?

Talk about hypocrisy.

I agree that Falwell, Robertson and Buchannan are idiots who are terrible examples of christian ministers.

Now show me where I've ever endorsed their actions, or presented them as an example.

By calling one side out and not including them you have included yourself into your list of hypocrits.

Your previous post.

and you completely failed to mention the repubs pulpit pit bulls, yet you stated to call 1 out without the other was hypocrisy.

First off I am lead to believe that you did not understand the article that I posted. Unless of course you do not mind that there is a chance that the people in your church may hand over the directory to a cause they believe in but you do not. This is like being automatically enrolled in mailing lists that you never signed up for. No matter how you try to spin it, it is WRONG!

Since you want to bring Jesse Jackson into it, How do you defend Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell et. al. preaching to their flocks about their personal beliefs of the current admin.?

I am in the mood for a good laugh.

In the first, you correctly pointed out the fallacy of providing lists of people to anyone without their actively allowing themselves to be included on such lists.
I differ with you on ministers preaching their politics to their parishioners.  As long as the parishioners can silently reject that message if they feel differently about politics, then it is ok for a minister or priest or rabbi to preach their brand of politics - whether it be conservative, liberal, moderate or off the charts extreme.
Where Snowman seems lost is that he cannot see any distinction at all.  But, I have to admit that I expect less from him.

I am not sure if he is still in a drug induced stupor or if GW and him compare notes on who can make the most inane statements.

I did not read the link you included at first but returned and read it.

If Rush needs to attack Kerry on what he says about rap, and make suppositions about Kerry playing the guitar and not knowing anything about rap rather than finding a REAL and factual issue to attack Kerry on, Rush is STILL a pathetic person and is seriously mentally challenged as well.

This link you provided falls right in line with the people that base their opinions and votes on how someone LOOKS rather than taking into account the real issues we are dealing with.
