LBJ was a piece of shit. We kicked ass on the tet offensive. LBJ got psyched out and stopped bombing North Vietnam. North Vietnam had only one more days supply of surface to air missiles. The US would have had total--total air superiority. the tet offensive became a psychological victory for the North. LBJ fucked up.
Also, LBJ was afraid of the Chinese. They couldn't have done anything if they wanted. They were one step ahead of mass starvation and Mao Tse Tung was doing his cultural dementia revolution thing in China. They never would have sent troops to Vietnam.
All the welfare programs LBJ started made poverty worse!!!!!! And we're still pouring money into rathole gov programs.
took over a decade to repair. It took President Reagan over eight years to repair the damage he did to the military and restore our pride and posture. I will give LBJ one thing he was great for civil rights and that is to be commended.
When I was referencing LBJ I was not referring to him in relation to whether he was good or bad, which is why I clarified with "what ever you think of him."
You don't learn to be a good person at Harvard, so whether he was a piece of shit or not isn't from his college.
My point was he was incredibly effective as a politician in getting legislation passed, regardless of his lack of a quality education.
He did get psyched by the war and the public's reaction to the war. But as a politician there were many better.
Again, to be clear, his lack of education did not have a negative impact on his ability to navigate the political waters.
