Yes Carter was a lousy POTUS, and there is no need for "but" anything

I predict he will continue to be an embarassment to this country until he has the courtesy to drop dead.

Jimmy Carter reminds me of a white Jesse Jackson.

He just can't stay out of places where he clearly doesn't belong. Jimmy Carter speaks for this country, like Jesse Jackson speaks for all black people.

Btw, his relationship with Jews & Israel have always been "frosty" at best, so ini's description of "transparent rehabilitation" rings true.

Btw how many Jews in Cuba ? 3 ?

You do know that Cubans, and not just Jewish Cubans, are known as the Jews of Latin America.

It would have been nice if he'd just kept to building houses for the  less fortunate.

Did you see how he recently blamed his inability to pass health care legislation on Teddy Kennedy?  After Kennedy was dead?  What a weasel.

I'd like to say that is amazing, but with Carter, it's expected.

The sad thing is I almost started to admire him when he started his Project for Humanity. I thought the he bombed as Pres, but would be a GREAT ex-pres.

Then he decided he had to fuck up as ex-pres also. Even the Dems and lefties are embarassed by the guy.

Go back to peanut farming.

...he was better than Reagan. He was better than Nixon. He was better than Bush Senior. He was better than Bush Jr. He was better than Clinton. And so far, he's better than Obama.

he may have been better than Nixon & GWB, but he
still was a dreadful POTUS. Economy tanked under his watch, along with humiliating spectacle of U.S. embassy hostages in Iran.

Also, his failed Presidency paved the way for the
U.S. to shift to atavistic right wing policies under Reagan.

Any way you slice it, he was a lousy President.

he was by far the worst POTUS of my lifetime, no one else even comes close. Not even the guy keeping the seat warm today.

Btw, at this point, quite disappointed in BHO;he might end up after 4 years as failed POTUS.Hell, I may even not vote for him next time, but WORST ?! Apparently, you don't know your history
( or much of anything else ) if you think he's as bad as Buchannan, Andrew Johnson, Hoover, LBJ, Nixon, GWB etc.

Nu ( at the risk of sounding PC,which I detest )pray tell, could your intense dislike of BHO stem from the fact that he's black ?!

I felt the same way.  I also liked it when he'd visit countries having free elections for the first time to help ensure they were free and fair.  Then he started weighing in where he had no business, like the  Arab/Israeli conflict, and screwing things up.  All his born-again piety makes me gag, too.

excellent attempt at revisionist history but as usual w/o substantianting facts. once the great one, obama, leaves office carter will get a bump up to 'only the second worst presidnet in history'.

And I even admit voting for the guy.  What a loser.  He was as bad in his own way as any Republican.  I'd say Bush Senior was much better and so was Clinton.

Sorry, Pri, but "President Moron" is already taken.  A/K/A G. W. Bush, who made Jerry Ford look smart.

I did like his attempt to encourage "free elections," but I think he was a little naive.

I don't mind the born-again. I am a non-relgious Jew (by family only), but I have never had a problem with fundamentalists.  If people want to believe something that I don't, it doesn't matter to me if it is Christ or astrology or numerology or Buddhist.

Also, there are two things. I heard someone ask, "If you are walking down a dark street at night and hear footsteps behind you, would you rather see 4 men walking out of a fundamentalist church with bibles, or four rap artists.

The other thing with religion is I have never had anyone as a client who was fundamentalist when they did the crime, although child molest, as an illness, does cross lines to some extent, but even there it was one in 30 years, and that was the only crime.

Finally, it does give comfort to my clients who discovered it while doing life.  Anything that comforts them is okay with me.

Reagan put an end to the energy crisis simply by removing price controls. Can Carter beat that?

In fact, I blame Nixon for allowing the price controls in the first place. (That's how governments often try to deal with inflation when they quit the gold standard and start printing money.)  Carter struggled with the problem of the energy crisis throughout his presidency, without any improvement, when the solution was so easy!

What problems has any of the boneheads solved who followed?

The economy tanked under Carter, primarily from an oil embargo and from Vietnam war spending. Carter was faced with a new economic problem: Stagflation. His administration, and his Fed chair solved that problem. The medicine didn't taste good, but it solved the problem.

Furthermore, Carter's unemployment rate was better than Reagan's, with the exception of Reagan's last year in office.

Carter gave the first push for renewable green energy, and everybody laughed at him at the time. But had his ideas been followed, we wouldn't have lost 5,000 American soliders in Iraq, not to mention a trillion in treasure.

Carter said, "I will soon submit legislation to Congress calling for the creation of this nation's first solar bank, which will help us achieve the crucial goal of 20 percent of our energy coming from solar power by the year 2000."

This could have been accomplished, and then some. Now it looks like an incredible opportunity that was lost. Enjoy paying 4 bucks a gallon for petrol.

Had Carter's ideas been fully implimented, we would not be in the middle of 3-4 wars, we would be the world leader in a new technology, Muslims wouldn't be outraged at us and trying to use terrorism tactics to keep us from taking their natural resources, we wouldn't have seen our national debt double fighting for those resources, we wouldn't be the shame of the world for having a Gulag in Gitmo, need I go on?

We would be living in peace and prosperity. Instead, we're broke and at war. Carter was by far the best President of my lifetime. It's too bad Reagan struck a deal with the Iranians to hang onto our hostages until he was sworn in. Of course, Republicans always get away with treason.

Fair enough, Willy.  But just because Carter wasn't wrong about everything doesn't make him a good POTUS.  First of all, did any of those wonderful ideas get passed?  No.  What separates good Presidents from the rest is being effective.  Carter was perhaps the most ineffectual President in recent history.
PS:  In case you didn't notice, the Fed is independent, so don't give Jimmy credit for what it did.
