If you think national Health Care is such a good idea don't you think we should prove the Government can properly take care of our soldiers who DO have Government Health Care... There have been Major Issues with Veterans care long befoe President Bush was Governor of Texas.I have had friends who have had great care at V.A hospitals but my best friend went in for treatment but came out dead from Dr.error.

You have an administration that cut taxes, cut veterans benefits, went to war and then cut both again.

It's a self-fulfilling argument I'd say.  You vote for untrustworthy idiots to run the government  then use it to prove that the government is idiotic and untrustworthy.

You get a bunch of corrupt businesses probably run by Washington insiders to make hundreds of millions of dollars from government agencies like Medicare, run by their cronies, and what do you know!  Do you blame capitalism for the corruption.  No!  Say the government is corrupt!

Outside Veterans and Medicare though, I know of a few nightmares too.  One where the doctor removed the wrong lung because he had the X-Ray up backwards. In a different case, the same doctor left the OR in the middle of an operation and returned with a textbook to tell him how to do the procedure.

I know of a case where a doctor performed a 2 1/2 operation and afterward got in his car.  Ten minutes later he was pulled over for drunk driving.

I'm sorry about your best friend, but to be fair, look at the total fuck-ups in private health care too.

If there is ANYTHING a government should do for its people, it should be to take care of their medical needs.
But the medical profession in this country has ceased to be about patient care, and has become about the bottom line. Greed wins out over Health Care for Everybody.

Nearly every business, corporate precept for success is the polar opposite of what medicine’s is.

There is always going to be screw-ups and oversights as long as historically proven imperfect “people” are involved in healthcare. Adding the legerdemains of “for profit” into the equation has repeatedly proven the antithesis of “healthcare”.

is so much better, so much more efficient, so much "safer", then why stop at just reforming the health care industry?

Which one would target next?

You can't say energy. You've already been there.

No one is proposing Nartional Health Care in which the government provides medical care to the public. What is being proposed by almost every Democrat is government providing financing so that PRIVATE hospitals, PRIVATE physicians, PRIVATE clinics, and so forth can provide care.

And the proposalls all involve giving everyone a choice among different plans - in the way it is now for Medicare for the elderly.

Basically, the proposals are to give the rest of us the same deal that the elderly get - a choice of different plans with the care provided by private doctors and hospitals.

Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Richardson - none of them are proposing that the national government run the hospitals or employ the doctors.

If we are going to argue, let's argue about what is being proposed.

Little by little they invade our life and try to make decisions for all of us. It will only lead to a  system similiar to the  Canadian failure with Government directed  health care..If  we let the Government gain control of our Health Care it will make the worst HMO look great.. I don't have a problem with some sort of Government health care for the needy but let me make my own decisions.

Under more and more employer-provided health plans, employees have fewer and fewer choices and more and more interference by their employer.

The government already funds 50% of health care - between Medicare, Medicaid, the VA, Tricare, IHS, and Federal, state and local employees and retirees. And except for the VA and Tricare all of the care is provided privately. The government doesn;t administer Medicare - it is done by private insurers  who contract as intermediaries and carriers.

Having everyone get a voucher to take to a private insurer and then go to private hosptials and physicians is not a governemt run system. There would still be choice of both plans and doctors and hospitals.
