have to agree with Timbow - grand slam to Obama.  I wonder exactly how many Hillary female votes Palin will siphon off for the GOP  -- not too many methinks.

This came out of nowhere, but probably is a smart choice.

Check out the pics of her.  Can you say hot MILF?

I am just thrilled he didn't pick Romney or some other "real" conservative. Maybe, just maybe this means we will get as John Stewart put it "Senator McCain" as opposed to "Candidate McCain"

I've been nervous for the last several weeks that McCain was going to blow it by picking a traditional white male conservative and lose everything he had going for him with the moderate democrats. I don't know much about Sarah Palin, but she is not the typical right wing conservative and she as an added bonus is a woman. I wonder how many of Hillary's 18 million votes she will siphon off?

Iwould not say she is beautiful but she is ok looking . But the argument about Obama's experience is almost out the door now. Biden will tear her apart in a debate about national security and it ain't gonna be as pretty as she is to your eye :)
But I hope the big gamble pays out but I kinda doubt it will and you will see a Prez Obama now.
Hillary supporters are pro choice Palin is not .

I wonder if Biden will ask her in the debate...
Mrs Palin why didn't you abort that Down syndrome baby you have..

Notify TER... we've got a new term for the newbie page. LMFAO

It was no shock to me that McCain would select Sarah Palin, though I didn't have much hope that he would. I've been paying attention to this lady for sometime now, and felt she would be a fantastic choice for Veep. McCain hit a grand slam when he selected her.

She is incredibly bright and articulate, and is quite a maverick in her own right. Her entry into public service began at the city council level with the intention of cleaning up what she believed to be wasteful spending and high taxes, and once elected did exactly that. She cut her own salary, cut spending, and lowered property taxes.

Her rise in politics is nothing short of meteoric, so claims of inexperience may have their weight, but no one can question her willingness to challenge even her own party members for ethics violations, wasteful spending, and cronyism. She challenged sitting Gov. Murkowski in a primary bid and won, then went on to win the Governorship against a former governor. Once in office she passed an ethics reform bill, killed several pork barrel projects including the infamous "bridge to nowhere" for which Alaska DID eventually recieve federal funding under a different name. Congress snuck the money into Alaska's budget after vocal public protest, and it was Gov. Palin who put a stop to it. It is no wonder her approval rating in Alaska has averaged 80-90% during her time in office.

She is exactly what McCain needed. She has the conservative credentials to make even the most fundamental fruitcake among Republicans happy, and she has a bigger set of balls than any 'man' in the Democratic party - particularly the one Dems selected to be their nominee. Am I the only one that remembers how loudly and how frequently Obama talked about ethics reform when he was campaigning for the Senate in 2004? What did he do when he got to the Senate? Absolutely NOTHING. Palin's resume, brief though it is, is one of action, getting things done, and most importantly, keeping the promises she makes to her constituents.

By the way, she is HOT too! I'd do her :)

She is not pro choice  and is aganist a lot of issues that Hillary voters have .
She will not get MAC anymore women voters from the 18 million of Hillary .
Grand slam to Obama and a big gamble .

This might come as a shock to you, but ALOT of women do not vote on abortion issues alone. If I voted on abortion alone, I would never vote for a Republican, since I am pro choice. Other issues are considerably more important though, so I just live with the fact that my candidates rarely share my views on abortion.

Of course, I was never a Hillary supporter too. But yes, I do beleive that Sarah Palin WILL help McCain attract some of Hillary's supporters. Not all, but plenty of them. Simultaneously her longime NRA membership and pro life stance will help McCain solidify the Republican base. She is a win on both fronts.

Then add in the fact that she is the antithesis of "old DC" politics as usual, and her willingness to go after members of her own party who aren't following the rules. She is going to be a big hit among conservatives and among independents once they get a look at her resume.

and Obama's pick makes him look like politics as usual. Just how the hell do you run a campaign based mainly on a philosophy of "throw the bums out" and then pick one of the oldest, most entrenched bums out there?

Obama obviously realized how vulnerable he was and took his eye of the ball, McCain on the other hand knocked one out of the park.

Who do you think would have been a better choice, or do you think there was any such thing as a good choice?

In fact, i do not think there was any obvious good choice here.  My persoanl preference would have been Colin Powell, despite his less than stunning term as Secretary of State. I figure he could be Cheney w/o the negatives, and god only knows Powell might have done well and make amends for his previous term as Sec State. I could also have lived comfortably with Romney, and i cannot believe the hostility he has garnered over his faith.  And i'm not a person who communes easily or readily with the faithful.

That being said, I an close to "rapture" that neither Lieberman nor Guiliani ever got close to getting the nod.

I confess I'm mostly unfamilar with Palin, but I'm mostly wiling to reserve judgement until i learn more. I only wonder, will she wind up being considered as a Dan Quayle in a tailored woman's business suit if she tanks in her "debut" on the national political stage? As for the lovefest for her so far in this forum, well, I'm wondering if there's not more than a little bit of making lemonade out of lemons, or whistling past the graveyard, to it.

We shall see.  I'm keeping my keyboard close at hand.

someone who is willing to reserve judgement. There is somethint about a post titled

"yeah, as in WTF was McCain thinking and I really hope he changes his mind?"

that strikes me as a man not willing to reserve judgement. lol

since you appear to be on your way to becoming one of my small band of devoted readers, let me advise you always to try to separate the wheat from the chaff, and always to be mindful that a cheap laff, or at lest a feeble and unsuccessful attempt at one, usually trumps a substantive comment.  and the question mark at the end of the header indicates that it's more of a tentative idea than a fully formed, even if totally wrong, one, in what passes for my mind.

The uncritical acclaim I'm seeing for Palin in this forum just brings out the natural contrarian in me, so...

Palin seems to be Obamaesque - an interesting personality, perhaps capable of some very big things in the future, but is she [and is he] really ready for Prime time?

It's the "The Not Ready For Prime Time Politicos"?

"She is not pro choice  and is aganist a lot of issues that Hillary voters have .

As of yesterday millions of not motivated youth ,{with Obama or Mccain} will be excited to vote this year..In other words even if McCain gets 0 Hillary voters, other voters who otherwise would not have voted will come out and vote for Mccain.. It does work both ways even if most don't realize it..

Romney would have been a better choice and probably could have won Michigan but she is a NRA member like me and likes to hunt MOOSE .
But regardless she is not qualified to be President so MAC is taking a huge gamble but it is a change ticket now no doubt and Rush likes her and the powerful NRA so hopefully it will fire the base up .

Obama promises change. Yet his resume of accomplishments both during his time as state senator, and the extremely brief amount of time he spent actually fulfilling his obligation as US Senator before he started campaignging for a better job title, shows a paucity of actual substantive action toward change. Now, as a presidential candidate, the self professed agent of change selects the ultimate Washington insider to be his running mate.

If there is one thing Obama and McCain have in common, it is their pledge to bring change. McCain has a record as a maverick in his own party, and has a resume that includes a legislative agenda to bring change. Now, when it comes to selecting a VP, he put his money where his mouth is. He selected a lady who entered public service on the promise of change, and fulfilled that promise as a Mayor. In her short tenure as Governor, she suited action to her campaign promises by passing an ethics reform bill, cutting pork barrel spending, rescinding Murkowski's 11th hour cronyism appointments, and lowering taxes. She promised, she delivered.

Yes, this is a grand slam for McCain. He selected a perfect model of a true reformist. The fact that she is HOT is just an added bonus :)

MAC is taking a huge gamble and I hope it pays off .
But MAC has put the experience theme on Obama and for him to pick Palin with no experience in national securty ,different then local govt it will be thrown back to MAC anytime he now brings up Obama's lack of experience in national matters and because of his age she can be a heartbeat from being President.
Obama does have more experience in national security matters and the world more then Palin.

She is a NRA member like me and likes to hunt and fish . Rush likes her and the NRA so those are two pluses to help on this risky play, but you gotta agree it is now a change Obama ain't got  Also the evanglicals are fired up .

not yet, the best i can come up with is Ministry of Silly Politics, but no real pizzaz to that.

Fear not, I'm sure the many wits on this Board [at least among the rapidly dwindling liberal/left contributors] will come up with something.  If not, there's a country full of stand up comedians and gag writers who will no doubt rise to the challenge.
