The RNC has already told Trump and he agreed, that this is his only term. He will not be the candidate in 2020, which will go to Ryan. Depending on how badly he's screwed things up by the end of the year, he may resign early 2018 to allow republicans to hang on to a few seats. That's the real strategy.
