I noticed in the 3rd paragraph Iraq is referred to as Mesopotamia.  Where did that come from?  I haven't seen that since my 6th grade world history textbook.

Shortly after the downfall of the Saddam statue in downtown Bahgdad, US forces were still spread out in the effort to secure the surrounding area. That portion of Iraq in and around Bahgdad comprised much of the ancient borders of the Mesopotamian region between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, from the time of Abraham all the way to the destruction of the advanced irrigation systems by the Mongol horde invasions of 1248.
As part of the US effort, modern irrigation techniques have begun being applied to the same areas destroyed by the Mongols, and this has led to much of what little true success there has been thus far in revitalizing Iraq. The Army began referring to that specific area as Mesopotamia in their reports and the name has stuck and spread.
The cynical part of me also believes it to be part of a longer term effort to "rebrand" the region. "Iraq" brings a specific image to mind, one of war and oil. Mesopotamia, the Fertile Crescent, fields of lush greenery and date palms; that brings a different image to mind.

Thanx.  There's one particular image of a "Fertile Cresent" which comes instanly to mind, especially when loitering around TER.
