Several of the disappeared liberals who formerly posted here, but now just lurk, PM me from time to time to bemoan the name  calling, character assination, mudslinging, etc.. and they attribute most of it to the posters on the right.

I found myself becoming less of a nice guy after 4 years of checking into this forum.

I've been posting on the P&R board for a good part of the last year.  For the most part, I have enjoyed the thought-provoking give-and-take and the exchange of opinions and ideas.  After all, that is the purpose of this board.

But in the last two-to-three weeks, the tenor has changed.

I don't mind names and vulgar comments thrown my way. After all, I used to be a baseball umpire and a little league coach (LOL).  But I do tire of seeing that kind of tirade take over a discussion board such as this one.

I appreciate the regular comments from many of the posters on this board -- both conservative and liberal -- and I enjoy reading and digesting ideas from both sides of the fence.

But I don't like the un-civil remarks that have become more frequent and the temper tantrums that have been displayed.

I'm not above all that and I'm not saying that I have never participated in that type of banter.  What I am saying is that I don't want to be drawn into it any more.

So, I'm sure that many of you will be pleased to not have to read any more of my comments or thoughts.  Thanks for all the back-and-forth over the past few months and enjoy future discussions about what is happening in this world of politics and foreign relations.

I'm going to return to the things (pussy, tits, ass, etc.) that first attracted me to TER.  And those things are a helluva lot more fun than politics. I'm sure fasteddie will agree with me -- for probably the first time -- on that point!!!!

Sorry to see you go... I didn't often (if ever) agree with you but your posts were for the most part thoughtful and intelligent.

You're always welccome on the pornstar board! ;-)

me on the pornstar board. Love reading your pornstar experience blogs.  Would love to sit over many beers and hear you tell some of your favorite stories.

If you ever get to Philly, I'd love to bend an elbow... as long as you're buying! lol

I've never been to Philly. One of the few major cities that I have not been to.  But would love to get there some day.

Maybe someday you'll get to Chicago before I get to Philly.  I'll offer you the same deal!!!!

We can always talk a little politics.  But talking pornstars would be a lot more fun!!!

Or maybe I get my ass to Vegas sometime when you also happen to be visiting.

I’ve been thinking the same thing lately. I really enjoy the aspects here that challenge my ideas, concepts and philosophy. I think it helps prevent Alzheimer’s, LOL. But I’ve recognized that lately, one or two of the “assholes” (as Charlie described them) have drawn me down to their level. It’s my fault not theirs.

I should stick around long enough to facilitate fasteddie to realize he’s really a conservative, LOL.

Next time I’m in town we should go out for a beer or something.

PW...  I certainly can understand your perspective.  I read for years before finally opening my mouth and making a post.  Sometimes I find myself shaking my head at the rudeness, the name calling, and shear hatred shown here in complete disbelief.  But don't allow someone else to "rob your joy".  Stick around and share your opinions and skip over those post that you ‘know better’ than to read.

The bashing has come from both sides.  I'm not just point fingers at my adversaries on the left. And it's gotten to be too much.  Kinda takes the fun out of the board.

But there is plenty of entertainment elsewhere on TER so I will still be around and may occasionally lurk here.

Seems like everyone is a 6-3 240 lb NFL middle linebacker on the Internet. There are no consequences for their words and tone. Now put the P&R board memmbers in a room together, and trust me you would see a lot more civility. You would probably see even the most hardcore posters buying each other drinks and dialing down the rancor. Otherwise you would see the TER Sports Board going nuts putting bets on who gets their ass kicked first.

I bet there's a decent overlap between  the two boards.

That could be an imaginative post if you  care to compose it. A few laughs to be gotten at least.

The loss of civility in this country over the last 20+ years simply amazes me.  I still hold doors open for people following me into or out of buildings, but the number of people who just let the door slam in my face grows larger every year, as the the use of the words "Please" and "Thank you" diminishes.

Rudeness is an epidemic in present day America, and when you add in the anonyminity that the internet provides is reaches new levels of crudeness.  Hell, we're almost as rude as the French! :-)

We've become a people who expect entitlements and see no reason to give thanks when we get them, but are quick to bitch and complain, usually in a nasty and mean-spirited way.

And of course we have our politicians leading the way as shinning examples of grace and charm.

I still stand when a woman enters or leaves a room. How often do you see that?

it's buying a cup a coffee at Starbucks, or shopping at your local grocery market, you rarely hear the words "Thank you". I do hear:

"there you go", "is that all", and occasional, "have a nice day", but no Thank you. It's as though the cashier is waiting for me to say thank you.

Your post is 100 percent, right on.

Please inform me of our next meeting at a bar. I never start trouble, but I love to finish it. But, otherwise I'm just a pussy cat. I always start out giving respect, until I'm shown disrespect. And, I'm not talking about disagreements as being signs of disrespect.

Oh, I got several strange stares, this morning, when I took my wife out for brunch, and pulled out and adjusted her chair for her to be seated. What's this world coming to?

Bill Burr is absolutely hilarious. This 5 minute bit is about women, marriage, and their need to fill up an empty day with one horrible idea after another, including Brunch.

If we ever have a P&R meet and greet, you will definitely be on the list. We will just have to find a venue with a back room, just in case.

And, you're right! I didn't see one guy that seemed to be enjoying himself at brunch. And, the young married couple at a table next to us, was trying to, as diplomatically as one can in public, negotiate a separation between them. It was quite difficult to focus on what my wife was saying, while overhearing the drama.
