You don't jump off the same building you just been fired from. That makes it look like they win.
After a city worker gets fired, don't they get a package, unused vacation money, retirement etc.
Then he could have gotten his unemployment insurance money.  Ok, most probably after a couple years or so... finding a job, any job would still be very difficult. But that could have given him some extra time of life... Then you can start to contemplate jumping from any high place and do it if so desire.
