Other than you are correct that Antifa means anti fascist and they are basically anarchists. But terrorist hate group? Not hardly. In fact its hard to call Antifa any kind of group any all. There is no centralizes executive authority defining what Antifa is or what they do. Antifa rose in Europe following WWII for one purpose only - to combat fascism and its white supremacist anti-immigrant supporters, by direct action and physical confrontation if necessary. But by far its principle tactic is to expose and marginalize fascists and white supremists. They want those people to lose their jobs and any standing in their community.
They never had nor do they care about the left. Antifa does not care about either the Republicans or the Democrats or any political party for that matter - although obviously quite a few in the day were communists for obvious reasons. (Well obvious to those people who have a brain and actually exercise it.) Antifa' purpose is very simple - combat fascism at its first inkling in a community. It recognizes that Fascism and the White Supremecist movement that has been revitalized by the Trump presidency must be attacked and stopped at its very beginning before it can take hold. They realize as should every American, that Hitler and Mussolini were voted into office and were enabled by a democratic parliamentary system. Antifa only rises up as a reaction to the rise of fascism and white nationalism. Once Trump and his implicit support of white nationalism is kicked to the curb, as well he should be, Antifa will fade away as it always does until the next fascist movement comes along. Think of how many lives would have been saved it it was present in 1930s Germany. How is that a bad thing? Would Heather Heyer be alive today if Antifa didn't show up at a fascist rally? That's not even a relevant or particularly intelligent question. Antifa simply isn't part of that equation....Antifah come from & what is it's definition ? I tried Wiki-pedia but there is no info. on that word & they usually have info. even on slang before anyone ells.
It seems to have cropped up with Charlottesville.
...So some of the righties that post here are making derogatory statements about people they call "antifa" does that mean that they support fascists ?

IMO anyone who supports Antifah is as misled and ignorant as KKK or Supremacist supporters.
The Antifah idea was started decades ago in Europe to combat fascism.
Antifah in America today are fascists in disguise although many of their base has no clue how dangerous they are.
Most of Antifa are misguided youth looking for attention.
They are using their violence toward extremist racist groups as an excuse to hide their true intent, removing free speech while replacing it with civil disobedience, chaos and anarchy.
Here's a video from a partisan Left wing site giving their take on Antifah.

I've said many times violence breeds violence.
I couldn't care less if KKK and Antifah kill each other to the last idiot standing.
I do care about innocent people killed merely because they are bystanders or a person coming home from work, while some Governors and Mayors do nothing to stop Antifah violence before it gets out of hand.
Charlottesville Mayor and Gov of Va. come first to mind.
Would Heather Heyer be alive today if Antifa had not pushed their start violence button in Charlottesville?

Antifa will not win long term against the groups they target, they are only helping to add members to radical organizations like the KKK and Supremacists.
Noam Chomsky said it best " What they do is often wrong in principle- like blocking talks and [the movement} is generally self- destructive. When confrontation shifts to the arena of violence it is the most brutal and toughest who win- and we know who that is"
If you don't know, the most brutal and toughest is not Antifa
Defending Antifa will only harm peace and prosperity in America.

...Thankx jinx for a very concise post, can you post any good information sources about Antifa.
A historian at Dartmouth wrote the book on Antifa. It's called "Antifa -The Anti-Fascist Handbook". A fascinating read about a movement that acts on the outer fringe of society and its various actions around the world to combat Nazism. Their actions in Norway and Britain, which effectively wiped out strong and determined white nationalist movements there, is particularly telling of their tactics.
