I respect Alan Dershowitz; he has a long and distinguished resume. I do agree with him most of the time, but I disagree with his assessment about Steve Bannon; its less about the individual and more about what he represents in this political climate. Bannon's high profile position in the Trump White House can only serve to further embolden the "right wing Jew haters" even more than they already have been during and after this heinous election campaign. And that doesn't even include the rest of the "races". Need I remind any of you that 6 million Jews only accounted for half of the Nazi genocide. Homosexuals, Communists, Romanian Gypsies, Africans and other "deplorables" comprised another 5-6 million. The ones who were in league with and learning from the Nazis were the Arab Muslim Imams and Sheikhs who were involved in their own Judenrein campaigns in Transjordan, Syria, Iraq, the Saudi Arabian peninsula and of course the "British Mandate".
But don't think for one minute things would be much different in MY eyes had Clinton won. The fact he does not disavow the support of the KKK, their Grand Douchebag David Duckfucker and all those wannabe Nazi plumpkinheads makes him unsuitable for any position in any government, let alone a major influence who has the ear of the President. That he has Jewish friends and co-workers... seriously guys, you're gonna play THAT card? Trump himself, as we all know, has Jewish family. Yes, its confounding and confusing as Hell and I can't wrap my head around at all... but then again, P&R regular meinarsche has indicated he has some Jewish in his background and look at HIS perspective sometime. It boggles the mind, but in this world, in this atmosphere, little is surprising, even when shocking. So what is it then? As an American with a strong existential connection to his Jewish ancestry, I saw no upside to either candidate.The RNC has emboldened and embraced the white hate faction who happen to hate them Jewwwws and lumps them in with Moo-slims Wet-backs and Niggas. Meanwhile, the inclusive DNC convention featured dozens of Palestinian flags proudly waved aloft inside, a number of Israeli flags burned outside, a BDS booth prominent at the DNC rallies despite HRC personally repudiating BDS (while accepting millions from their patron saint George Soros)and nowhere have I seen TO THIS DAY a single repudiation by anyone from the Democratic Party about it. Heres the real difference in my book. It's always been there on both sides...but the left has been far more outspoken and openly supportive of hate groups thanks mainly to Soros funding, while the right has been waiting in the wings for someone like Trump to come along and embolden them to more prominent activities. I have a great deal of anger and disappointment in the direction of this country in the 21st century. That anger has only been ampplified by the events of the last week. Times up for now. Hmm, being an American with no ancestral connection to anyone, I'll not claim to understand how you feel. I can feel the depth of your disgust with both parties, but I do not myself feel that strongly.
Most people saw the candidates as two very flawed human beings. They saw it as the lesser of two evils.
Maybe Dershowitz only was saying the jury's still out. There's no hard evidence to make a case against Bannon. And maybe he saw some of what you see and said, Par for the course; not much worse than anyone else.
When I see anti-Semitic symbols and hear the slurs it sets off an alarm in my mind. The same for other oft targeted peoples. If an individual draws a line to exclude a group, does it necessarily mean that he is a member of a group, all of whom draw that same line? If Bannon is a WASP, does it necessarily imply that all WASPs share his bias? And is it logical to assume that he has "learned" that bias from others in his ethnic group?
Or can he just be an asshole? Can he harbor a hatred that has nothing to do with his own ethnicity? Now when we frame these questions in reference to White Nationalism, there is a different weight given to an affirmative response than when they were framed in the context of Bannon simply being Anglo-Saxon.
So if that weighting is strong enough to constitute "sufficient evidence," what exactly does "belonging" to such loosely defined groups as White Nationalist or White Elitist or Alt Right mean?
I would say that proclaiming the assertion that a White Nationalist would assert as a central premise to his identity would at suggest that he condones the ideology. He considers it normal. A viable way of looking at the world that ought be accepted by all as simply part of a diverse society.
Now, feeling as I do, but knowing that my feelings pale to those of anyone who is included in people who have long been targeted by hate groups and who have suffered egregiously at their hands. I don't have to fear a knock on the door. So...
I think Bannon is a bigot, that his bigotry may or may not be primarily directed at Jews, and that through Breitbart he helped the Alt Right to spread their message. If he were judged only on this, his position in the Administration would be unacceptable to me.
Now, when he argues that that was when he was someone else as he is born anew each morning when he wakes, and that it is terribly unfair to be judged today for that former manifestation did in his yesterdays...that is a little hard to swallow. But that's really what he's asking. And he's suggesting that it is all normal, found permissible by society, and he would be doubly discriminated against if who he was and what he espouses is not accepted as normal.
So it turns out that it's not a question of who Bannon is but a question of who our society is. Who are we?
